La última jornada de la Premier League trajo varias sorpresas. Liverpool perdió. Manchester City perdió. ¡Chelsea ganó! ¿Habrá sorpresas en ésta jornada 8? Por favor, acompáñame a detallar algunos de los encuentros que pudieran traer algunas grandes sorpresas.

ARSENAL vs. MANCHESTER CITY

ARSENAL ganó contundentemente en su último encuentro de la Premier League, sin embargo, no pudo hacer lo mismo en su papel de visitante en la Champions League. Ahora vuelve a Londres con la esperanza de volver a encontrarse con la victoria. Es uno de los dos invictos que quedan en el torneo local, y a éste respecto llama la atención el cambio de portero titular. Raya se ha apoderado de los últimos encuentros, y en tres encuentros ya tiene más porterias imbatidas que su competidor en esa posición, que acumuló sólo una en cuatro encuentros. No cabe duda de que si ambos siguen hasta el final de la temporada, hay buenas razones para creer que están bien respaldados en ese lugar de la cancha. Lo más preocupante es que Saka no es seguro que asistirá a éste encuentro, debido a la molestia que sintió en el encuentro de entre semana y se esperará hasta último momento para saber si podrá estar disponible para Mikel Arteta.

MANCHESTER CITY perdió el invicto sorpresivamente con el Wolverhampton en la última jornada, interrumpiendo su buena racha de seis victorias seguidas. Además, los lobos son los únicos que podrán fanfarronear de ser los únicos que le han marcado dos goles a los ciudadanos en ésta temporada. Con todo, los sky blues conservan la cima de la tabla de posiciones pero ahora apenas a un punto de dos londinenses, uno de ellos, el rival de éste fin de semana. Esperaremos volver a ver el estilo característico del City ante el Arsenal, cuyo entrenador es uno de los mejores alumnos de Pep. De nuevo, la ausencia del suspendido Rodri será algo relevante, aunque en la rueda de prensa se trate de esconder. De Bruyne y Stones son jugadores también que son baja por lesión, pero la gran calidad que tiene éste equipo haga que uno poco se acuerde de ellos en éstos tramos.

Los últimos seis encuentros en el Emirates Stadium han sido victoria para los visitantes. Para encontrar la última victoria del Arsenal como local hay que irnos seis temporadas más atrás, y llegaremos a la 2011/12, donde el Arsenal venció por la mínima diferencia. ¿Quien anotó ese único gol de forma agónica? BRIGHTON vs. LIVERPOOL

BRIGHTON fue sorprendido en Villa Park y salió con una paliza encima, vencido 6-1. Así puso fin a la racha positiva que traía de tres victorias seguidas, que por cierto venían coincidiendo también en el marcador: 3-1 a favor de las gaviotas. A pesar de esta dura derrota, aún es el equipo más goleador de lo que va de torneo, con 19 anotaciones. Seguimos pendientes de la adaptación que tiene Ansu Fati. Roberto de Zerbi sigue administrándolo, sin usarlo los noventa minutos completos, alegando que incluso en el último tramo de éste hombre en España no lograba terminar los encuentros. La mala noticia es que Estupiñan ha sufrido una lesión que lo alejará de las canchas al menos un mes, según algunos comentarios escuchados en la rueda de prensa. Las gaviotas tienen un porcentaje de victoria del 75% en el Amex Stadium en lo que va de campeonato, anoten eso por ahí.

LIVERPOOL estuvo en unos de los encuentros más comentados del fin de semana pasado, donde el protagonista no fue ni un equipo ni el otro, sino el VAR, con uno de los errores humanos más escandalosos que hemos visto desde su creación. Tanto que su entrenador Jurgen Klopp ha pedido de que se repita el duelo, donde no sólo hubo un gol anulado por la tecnología, sino dos tarjetas rojas, donde una de ellas fue roja directa pero debatible. ¡Vaya forma de perder su invicto y romper la racha positiva de 5 victorias seguidas! Tratando de dejar eso atrás, los de Merseyside visitan el nido de las gaviotas buscando recordar que venían anotando hasta tres goles en los últimos encuentros, y vaya que lo necesitan en vista de la producción del rival.

Estos dos se enfrentaron en el Amex Stadium el 14 de enero de este mismo año bajo el marco de la temporada 2022/23 y allí el Brighton logró su primera victoria en casa en toda su historia. El Liverpool está advertido de lo que es capaz de hacer éste Brighton.

MANCHESTER UNITED vs. BRENTFORD

MANCHESTER UNITED no levanta cabeza y volvió a caer en su propio estadio frente al Crystal Palace. La historia se repitió en Europa, y llega aturdido a ésta nueva jornada, con más derrotas que victorias. La producción de goles no ha sido la mejor, apenas siete anotaciones en siete encuentros. Sólo seis equipos de la Premier están por debajo de este total. La mala racha de resultados se le suma la mala racha de lesionados, por lo que Reguilon, Martínez, Shaw, Malacia y Wan-Bissaka seguirán ausentes. Erik ten Hag no ha escondido los comentarios de lo que han podido hacer mejor. Es desconcertante, en vista de lo bien que se recuperaron en la temporada pasada, y ahora lo visto ésta nueva campaña no coincide. Y para terminar de poner triste el ambiente, hace poco se ha conocido la muerte de la esposa del legendario entrenador Alex Ferguson, por lo que de seguro habrán los respectivos formalismos antes del pitazo inicial del encuentro de éste fin de semana.

BRENTFORD logró pactar un empate frente al Forest en el fin de semana pasado, y sigue sin poder ganar desde el 19 de agosto, cuandno lo hizo frente al Fulham. El resto han sido cuatro empates y dos derrotas. En la posición 14 de la tabla busca aplicar un "quitate tu para ponerme yo", porque una victoria los haría superar a los diablos rojos y empeorar la situación de los de Manchester. Deberá hacerlo sacando lo mejor de la plantilla y de la actitud colectiva, en vista de que hombres como Mee y Baptiste siguen lesionados, así como otros compañeros. Veremos si Brentford hace honor al apodo que se ganó por un tiempo, como el matagigantes.

El Manchester United tiene un 80% de victoria cuando ha recibido al Brentford en Old Trafford. ¿Será lo único que podemos decir a favor suyo en éste tramo? Bueno, consideren también de que podr cada gol de las abejas en ese estadio, los diablos rojos promedian tres.

EL JUGADOR

LEVI COLWILL es una de los talentos jóvenes que está llamando la atención en Inglaterra. Con veinte años de edad es uno de los que han sido inamovibles en los últimos encuentros. En la última victoria de su equipo exhibió unos pases adelantados con mucha clase y presición, uno de ellos que se convirtió en una asistencia. Con una buena disciplina, no tiene tarjetas amarillas y promedia practicamente una falta por partido. Tiene una efectividad del 73% en los tackles realizados y dos porterías imbatidas. Si éste elemento se mantiene así, los aficionados del club aún pueden albergar esperanzas de que algo bueno suceda pronto.

Raya has taken over the last few games, and in three matches has already kept more clean sheets than his competitor in that position, who accumulated just one in four games. There is no doubt that if both continue to the end of the season, there is good reason to believe that they are well backed up at that spot on the pitch. The most worrying thing is that Saka is not certain to attend this match, due to the discomfort he felt in the midweek match and will wait until the last minute to know if he will be available for Mikel Arteta.

MANCHESTER CITY surprisingly lost their unbeaten run to Wolverhampton last time out, interrupting their run of six straight wins. Moreover, Wolves are the only team that can boast of being the only one to have scored two goals against the Citizens this season. All in all, the Sky Blues remain at the top of the table but now just one point behind two Londoners, one of them, this weekend's opponents. We will expect to see City's characteristic style again against Arsenal, whose coach is one of Pep's best pupils. MANCHESTER UNITED vs. BRENTFORD

MANCHESTER UNITED is not getting back on its feet and lost again at its own stadium against Crystal Palace. Erik ten Hag has not hidden comments on what they could have done better. It is disconcerting, given how well they recovered last season, and now what we have seen this new campaign does not match. And to add to the sadness, the death of legendary manager Alex Ferguson's wife has recently been announced, so there are bound to be some formalities before kick-off this weekend.

BRENTFORD managed a draw against Forest last weekend, and are still without a win since August 19, when they drew against Fulham. The rest have been four draws and two defeats. In 14th position in the table, they are looking to apply a "take you off to put me on", because a victory would make them overtake the Red Devils and worsen the situation of the Manchester team. They will have to do so by getting the best out of the squad and the collective attitude, in view of the fact that men like Mee and Baptiste are still injured, as well as other teammates. We will see if Brentford lives up to the nickname it earned for a while, as the giant-killer.

Manchester United have an 80% win rate when they have hosted Brentford at Old Trafford, so is that the only thing we can say in their favor down the stretch? Well, consider also that for every goal the Bees score at that stadium, the Red Devils average three.

THE PLAYER

LEVI COLWILL is one of the young talents that is attracting attention in England. At twenty years of age he is one of those who have been immovable in recent matches. In his team's last win he displayed some classy and accurate forward passes, one of which turned into an assist. With good discipline, he has no yellow cards and averages almost one foul per game. He is 73% effective in tackles and has two clean sheets. If this element keeps up, the club's fans can still hope for something good to happen soon.
