How would we categorize the first legs of the quarterfinals? Perhaps, "convincing", due to the results and the game that could be seen in those four stadiums. Therefore, in preparation for the second leg, we will talk about the tie that was the most open and another one that will once again have two great teams facing each other.

NAPOLI vs. MILAN

Ftm04dRXoAAzReH.jpeg

NAPOLI arrives at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium hoping to turn the tie around. They need to win the match by a two-goal difference or more. Is that a difficult task? It seems not, since in this edition of the tournament they have only won at their home stadium. In four games played, they have scored 14 goals and allowed only three against, with Ajax (with two goals) and Liverpool (with one goal) being the only ones on that select list. Favorites? Probably, as their opponents share the Italian competition, but it is the team from the south that is lord and master. Optimism has certainly been boosted by the fact that their top scorer Osimhen will be in action at the weekend. Those who will be missing are Anguissa and Kim Min-Jae due to cards, and Simeone due to injury. Although they were held to a goalless draw and there is still a slight drop in the team's attacking capabilities, they still have enough credentials to be able to claim victory in this round of matches. Besides, among so many high-level names, it must be motivating to know that as a semifinalist you could get another local team or a Portuguese team one step behind the others. And I take this opportunity to drop my opinion: I doubt that this year's champion will be in this key.

MILAN did the job that was expected in the first leg: to take advantage of their home advantage. Of course, one goal is not enough to be completely at ease in the second leg. Many will surely think that this match will lack excitement, given that these are two Italian teams and memory sometimes brings to mind those ultra-offensive episodes that mutilate the initiative and search for the opponent's goal. That's why, despite what Stefano Pioli says at the press conference, they don't buy the idea that they will be aggressive this time to keep the lead. Another reason? Let's go back one step: the round of 16. What was the score at San Ciro in the first leg? Milan 1 - 0 Tottenham. What was the score in the second leg? 0-0. A single goal at home and a goalless draw away from home was enough to advance. Will we have a speculative Milan, fancying a possible draw or attacking? If we choose the second option, we will surely see Brahim Diaz at his best, distributing play, reaching the goal, shooting from mid-range and perhaps looking for Giroud's forehead. Ibrahimovic** is likely to join the team and watch the game from the bench.

This is only the second game between the two in continental competition. Many do not rule out the possibility that they could reach extra time and even penalties. The Diego awaits.

BAYERN MÜNICH vs. MANCHESTER CITY

FthIB2LXgAAXH8J.jpeg

BAYERN MUNICH arrive at the Allianz Arena badly beaten. Three goals conceded in England, and unable to score even a single one. Did they try? Yes, and even had the ball longer than their British opponents. How many can say that lately? But we already know that games are won with goals, and not with possession of the ball, right Pep? Add to this tough defeat this process of change the team is going through with their new coach. Thomas Tuchel is making substantial changes, such as in the formation of the defense. Yet, the names look the same for the most part. All of this is causing some to doubt their ability (at least this week) to come back from this adverse result, against a Manchester City team that is in tune, calm and enjoying their game.

MANCHESTER CITY achieved the biggest scoreline of these quarterfinals. Probably few expected something like this, and even more so against the German leaders. They had no problems defending, but managed to shoot at their opponents' goal on average every 10 minutes, with three of them hitting the back of the net. Guardiola continues to show respect and honor to his opponent, without giving a hint of overconfidence (at least in words), making us remember the merit the Bavarians have for being at this point in the competition. Haaland is sure to be rubbing elbows with a pair of center-backs who will be looking to take him on with strength rather than speed. Anticipation will be crucial for both, in order to gain that little advantage in the penalty area that comes before the opponent.

They have met three times at the Allianz Arena, with the home side winning twice. Do you know who was on the coaching bench when Bayern lost their only game there against the Citizens? Pep Guardiola. Pellegrini took the win on that occasion. The only active players to survive from that duel are Muller and Neuer, with the striker the only one with a chance of taking the field again.

EL JUGADOR || THE PLAYER

FtizrHMWYAAUYjk.jpeg

VINÍCIUS JÚNIOR is having an excellent campaign in Europe. Only Haaland has scored more goals than him, and Joao Mario has scored as many goals as the Brazilian. And justly, the Portuguese also leads the table of assists with the merengue player. For all these reasons, we can say that he has participated in almost half of Real Madrid's goals so far in the competition. His presence has made the temporary absence of Benzemá not to be missed. He is definitely one of those called upon this week to help his club move forward and return to give another blow on the table with authority, seeking to rewrite his name in another European cup.

Will there be something to see Chelsea vs. Real Madrid? If someone is betting on Chelsea it's probably because they are hoping for a miracle or they don't mind losing some money. Inter will be looking to do what is rightfully theirs. It is the only one that returns to its stadium with a serious advantage. So these two playoffs have almost everything said. Anyway, the ball is round, let's enjoy the soccer!

Saludos @mikepeters
