The tools I carry on my bike || Las herramientas que llevo en mi bicicleta

IMG_1137.JPG

Leaving home on a bike implies exposing ourselves to certain risks, it's the truth. That doesn't paralyze us, but rather creates the need to be prepared. That's why it's normal for us to have a small kit of basic tools that can get us out of a jam outdoors. In this post, I want to show the ones I have, which I think are very small, with only three items.

AIR PUMP

IMG_1135.JPG

A few weeks ago, I broke the one I had. It was a gift from a friend when he found out I had a bike. I think this equipment is essential. We could need it at any time. In fact, I have had to help someone else when they see me approaching and shout, "Do you have a pump I can borrow?" And then I stop and can assist with that.

The one I'm showing today, I bought yesterday. It cost me $3. Both tires needed some air. So, in front of the same store, I took the time to use it and make sure it was in good condition. This one comes with the pump connection to the valve stem. So now I have two of those.

MULTI-TOOL

IMG_1134.JPG

This tool was also a gift. We did an audio and video job for an event where more than 12,500 people attended, and one of the team members gave it to me at the end of the job. As you can see, it has several functions, but some we definitely do not intend to use on the bike. For example, I never wish to hammer mine. But I found that the function it has as pliers to tighten the brakes, for example, is helpful. It comes in a fabric case. So, I carry it in the rear basket of the bike.

Once, going to an area for the first time on the bike, after passing an obstacle, the rear wheel got misaligned. Fortunately, I was able to maintain balance, and nothing broke. This tool helped me put everything back in place and readjust the brakes. Quite a scare.

PATCH KIT

IMG_1132.JPG

The use of this is quite evident. We don't know when we might need it. It's worth noting that I didn't know how to patch a tire until a couple of years ago when I became interested in having a friend teach me. Since then, I've been able to do it myself, saving time and effort, avoiding going somewhere else or waiting for assistance at home.

Once, coming back from grocery shopping, the rear tire blew out with a mile and a half left to go. That time, out of laziness to stop and disassemble everything to apply the patch, I preferred to walk with the bike next to me that last stretch back home. That also shows that even if we have everything we need with us, if we're not in the mood, we may not make the repair right away.

IN CONCLUSION

Obviously, I lack many elements to have a complete kit. For example, I would like to have an Allen wrench set. They are necessary for various bike adjustments. I hope to buy one soon. In the meantime, I'll keep using these. What about you? Which ones do you recommend? I'll read your comments. Thanks for making it this far. Until next time!

Me costó $3.

¿Cuáles me recomiendas? Los leo en los comentarios. Gracias por llegar hasta aquí. ¡Hasta la próxima!

Good one! Some say that pliers and a bit of wire can fix anything xD

It is true. You laugh, but sometimes it's true. Sometimes it's really not. It's even scary to see something repaired with wire. Greetings @mrprofessor

And duct tape. With that you can fix anything.
But it's a hassle to bring it with you during a ride 😂

It is true. I think I need to add that tape soon to my kit. It's more economical than the allen wrenches.😅

Good post with some useful tips. That multitool even has a hammer on it 😛

I have a small saddle bag which contains the allen wrenches you mention, one or two spare inner tubes, tire lifters and some CO2 patterns (instead of a pump).

I've seen those bags under the seat. They are very useful. Thanks for sharing that information. It encourages me to keep looking to carry my tools. Regards @hive-177745
