En la apertura de la decimotercera fecha de las Eliminatorias Sudamericanas al Mundial de Catar-2022. La selección de Brasil firmó su boleto al vencer 1-0 a Colombia este jueves en Sao Paulo, convirtiéndose en la primera selección sudamericana clasificada. Con este marcador Brasil coloca su récord en sus últimos 11 partidos ganados como local en Eliminatorias y lo hizo sin recibir goles en los últimos 10. Esta es las mayor racha de victorias consecutivas y partidos sin recibir goles como local de cualquier selección en la historia del torneo.

Con la clasificación anticipada del líder invicto de las Eliminatorias con 34 puntos, quedarían las nueve escuadras sudamericanas restantes peleando por los tres cupos directos reservados para CONMEBOL. Brasil es el primer equipo sudamericano clasificado para el Mundial de Catar en 2022. Es la primera vez, con el formato de Eliminatorias actual, que clasifica a la Copa del Mundo cuando le restan seis partidos por jugar, y siendo así mismo la selección Brasilera el único equipo pentacampeón y la única selección en participar en las 21 ediciones de la Copa del Mundo, la 'Seleção' (selección) de Tite obtuvo el pase a falta de cinco fechas para el final del clasificatorio sudamericano.

Solo en el segundo tiempo, Brasil pudo hacer pesar su superioridad ante la Tricolor, que venía demostrando orden y gran solvencia hasta que llegó el tanto del conjunto local, con una anotación de Lucas Paquetá en el minuto 72’ tras la asistencia de su referente estrella Neymar, que sumo récords en la competición, al realizar su octava asistencia en las Eliminatorias para el Mundial de Catar en 2022, tres más que cualquier otro jugador en el torneo. Además, el brasileño lidera en participación directa en goles con 15, 7 goles + 8 asistencias.

Por su parte Colombia con esta derrota cayó al quinto puesto con 16 puntos, (puesto de repechaje) con una selección de otra confederación, y pierde una seguidilla de ocho partidos invicto en Eliminatorias (2Victorias y 6Empates); No caían desde la derrota ante Ecuador en noviembre de 2020. Los 'cafeteros' pueden retroceder a la sexta casilla si Uruguay con 16 unidades suma contra Argentina que va segundo con 25 puntos el hoy en Montevideo.

En otro partido Ecuador gana con lo justo a Venezuela, llegando a la línea de los 20 puntos más 8 de gol diferencia y se mantiene aún en el tercer lugar, tras anotar un gol para superar 1-0 a una difícil Venezuela que le planto cara este jueves en Quito, El defensa ecuatoriano Piero Hincapié, con algo de complicidad del Vinotinto Rafael Romo, que terminó por mandar con sus manos el balón hacia su arco, abrió el marcador a los 41’ minutos. Chile venció 1-0 a Paraguay este jueves en Asunción y trepó al cuarto lugar, en zona de clasificación directa al Mundial. En un partido sin demasiadas opciones de gol, se terminó desnivelándose con una jugada desafortunada protagonizada por el portero paraguayo, que se vio sorprendido ante un córner efectuado por Alexis Sánchez(con una excelente actuación, remató cinco veces, además que gano la mayoría de sus duelos personales). El autogol del arquero guaraní Antony Silva a los 55 minutos de juego en el estadio Defensores del Chaco, le permitió a la Roja quedarse con la victoria y llegar a 16 puntos para trepar al cuarto puesto. La Albirroja sintió el peso del tanto en contra y se quedó sin ideas para, al menos, intentar conseguir el empate. Con el marcador final, Paraguay se quedó sin convertir goles como local por segundo partido consecutivo. Es la primera vez en la historia que termina dos juegos seguidos sin marcar en una misma Eliminatoria. Con este resultado se quedó con 12 puntos en el octavo puesto, por delante solo de Bolivia en la novena posición y Venezuela en el último puesto de la tabla.

Para ir culminando la jornada, Perú golea de manera contundente a Bolivia, para así seguir peleando por la clasificación; con un ataque demoledor en el primer tiempo, Los goles de la selección inca fueron anotados por Gianluca Lapadula tan solo a los 9’ minutos, Cristhian Cueva a los 31’, y Sergio Peña a los 39’.a una desdibujada Bolivia consiguiendo vitales puntos para seguir su recuperación en las Eliminatorias, sumando 14 puntos y se maniéndose en el séptimo lugar de la tabla. Los peruanos dominaron casi con exclusividad el balón y se hizo dueño del primer tiempo con una estampida inicial sobre la Verde, que hizo pie recién en el tramo final. Jugando en casa, Perú llega a ganar su tercer partido consecutivo en Eliminatorias (ante Venezuela, Chile y Bolivia), algo que no conseguía, en una misma Eliminatoria, desde la clasificación a la Copa del Mundo Francia 1998 (triunfos seguidos ante Bolivia, Uruguay y Paraguay). Además, la selección peruana ha ganado los últimos tres partidos en casa manteniendo el arco en cero algo bastante relevante para la selección.
