A day out at the Heritage Golf Club with Seve

My wife did very very well with my birthday present again this year. She booked a really nice hotel in the midlands and arranged for my sister and her husband to have our kids. The cherry on top was that she also booked and paid for a threeball at a nearby golf club called the Heritage with two of my good friends who I haven't caught up with in ages. Thats what I want to talk about now, as this is is #SportsTalkSocial, not #What'sYourWifeDoneForYouLatelySocial.

The Heritage Golf Club

As soon as I drove in the gates, I knew I'd like this place, it just has that energy and welcoming feel to it. As soon as you make your way around the corner to the Pro shop, you are treated to a tremendous vista showingcasing the difficult 9th and 18th holes whose greens are both flanked by this impressive and intimidating lake.

The Heritage is home to the Ballesteros course, Ireland’s only Seve Ballesteros designed championship course. They opened the doors back in 2004 and off the back tees, this track measures 7,319 yards and has hosted some of the world's top golfers over the years. Five or six lakes and a stream meander through the course, bringing water into play on 9 or 10 holes, making it a tough course for the average amateur golfer.

The one thing that struck us all was how playable and dry the course was for a warm November afternoon. They really do have remarkable on-course drainage, making the golf course playable all year round, which cannot be said for many courses in wet and rainy Ireland.

Everywhere you look, there's a nod to the great man Seve and rightly so.

Challenging course

It was a challenging course, but I managed to get around in 35 stableford points, chalking up four pars and one birdie along the way and with two scratches and around 4 lost balls, I was happy to make it to 35 points, which was enough to win me the bragging rights this time. I'll definitely be back to play here again some time without a doubt.

The 19th

20211106_165747.jpg

The 18 holes of golf and craic were excellent, slagging each other off as good friends do. There were some top class golf shots, some utter shite and everything in between. When we all finished out on the 18th and threw the clubs and gear back into the car, we went into the bar for a well earned pint of the black stuff. The craic was mighty, the Guinness was creamy and tasty and we all agreed that next time we meet for golf, we should make it an overnighter. That way we could have a proper session in the club bar afterwards.

A great birthday present and looks like a fantastic course. The weather looked perfect as the grass was wet which I find helps especially for the short game as the ball tends to stick.

Ya fair play to her now, it was a class break... Golf with the lads, Guinness, Leisure centre, steak dinner, savage Rioja, IPAs after dinner and she arranged for my sister to have the kids.

Ya the balls were landing where they pitched which I always prefer.. Will definitely look to get out there again next Summer maybe..

@ablaze It's a hard course that. Played it a. couple of times. I used to get my lessons off the pro there called Eddie Doyle. He was pretty good. Didn't know you were from Eire.

Ya it's a nice challenge alright and it was windy as fuck too, but to be fair the tee were well forward, so that helped a lot.

Ya, I'm Galway through and through, but used to live up in Dublin and Meath for years... Back West now again...

We should arrange a game of golc some time for the craic. I'd say @niallon11 would join us too.

Good to have ya back again, after your hiatus. I did similar and landed back around March or April. Great to be back, load of sound heads here now.

Ah Galway man. We all end up heading back home. It's mad. Did the whole Dublin meself and now back in Tipp.Dublin is a great spot when you are single and mad for the sauce. Yeah I would be up for that golf . The whole 2 kids thing are after putting some spanner in the whole golf and Hive game. Only got out twice this year. Castlemartr and West Waterford. It's a game where you need time and could bearly hit the ball in WAterford. I timed my hiatus perfectly as usual selling my 20 gold rare Splinterlands cards for around 20 quid just before the dawn of NFT's.Some tears rolling down my face last Tuesday when I logged back in. Anyway Keeps me humble and poor. Sound heads Hahah. Nice one. That's what you want to see. The crazys stayed over at Steem then I take it?

Ya it's gas man, we all tend to end up back where we came from, so long as we like where we came from!

I hear ya with the kids, I've three kids myself, so I know exactly what you're talking about..

I've never played either of them tracks and you're 100% right, unless you're playing golf regularly, the sport gets even harder than it already is!

Sure I never even got into Splinterlands. Completely missed the boat like a tool!! 🤣🤣

I'd be up for a game. The golf wouldn't be good but the criac could be.

Going to play tomorrow for the first time in months so I'll see how that goes. Then I have a game in lahinch at the end of the month.

We are all in the west with tipp, galway and clare. Just need a Limerick man now and we could have the all Ireland semi finals. 😂

Ha ha the All Ireland Semi finals is right 🤣🤣

Lahinch will be a great day out. I've only played the Castle course, but here the main one is class. Winter could be a good time to play it, to get a deal...

Sure let me know when yourself and @blanchy fancy getting out for a round and we'll organise something. The craic will be good as ya say.

The wife did good this time. A great present and a proper day out. Overnighter is a must. Those look like some great pints of the black stuff. 35 points would be great shooting out on a course like that.

I notice that you show the before scorecard. No picture of the finished on. 😅

Well spotted on the scorecard!!

Here are the scores on the doors... 😊

The 2nd and 9th were card wreckers for me. Lipped out an eagle chip on the 8th amd blazed my tee shot into no mans land on 9 and ended up scratching 🙈 The place was in savage nick for November though, would highly recommend
