Agonisingly close to a hole in one 👀⛳

I've been hitting golf balls for over thirty years, starting out with pitch and putt as a youngster back in the 80s and 90s knocking nice heavy commando balls around around Taylors Hill and Rahoon pitch and putt courses. When I was 14, I graduated to golf. I remember my first set of clubs well, they were pure shite, but I loved them. They were made by one of top golf manufacturers Sträter 👀👀 My folks bought them for me in Nevada Bobs in Galway, which closed its doors many moons ago. They cost not much more than £100 all in and included Driver, 3 wood, 5 wood, 3 Iron through SW, a putter and a golf bag. Quite the bloody deal when I think back on it!

I remember they had an offer of a handfull of tees for £1 - by god we got our moneys worth a few times, who knows how many we could have gotten had we had mens hands aged 13/14! That just came back to me as I tbought about tge Sträter golf clubs. I love a bit of Nostalgia.

Close, but no cigar!

I've had seven eagles over the years, five on par 5s and two on par 4s, but I'm still waiting on that extra special hole in one. Well, I came damn close today! It wasn't the closest I've ever been, as I've stitched one to within an inch previously, but it was top ten material for sure. As soon as I hit it, I loved it. It was a high shot into the 5th hole and it was all over the flag stick. I knew it would be close, and when I saw the plug mark, I saw just how close. It plugged less than a foot from the whole and rolled past the hole, two inches to tge right. So damn close, but it was a practice round and Noone else was around, so maybe it was better to save it for another day!

So have any of you guys or girls had an ace? For some, like me, they are as rare as hens teeth and then I've met some people who've had 3, 4, 5 in a lifetime. Come on, you've been wondering, did I make the birdie putt??? Of course I made the birdie putt!

Golf has a new hero in the making

Seeing as we are talking about golf and hole in ones and birdies, I will quickly touch on Tiger Woods return to the fairways this weekend in the
PNC CHAMPIONSHIP where Fathers play with sons. Tiger Woods teed it up last year with youngest child Charlie, who is a serious talent. Don't believe me? Check out the video below which inlcuded Charlie's first ever eagle. The kid was eleven years of age. ELEVEN! Have a look at that second shot into the par five as he bends a draw around the corner to around three feet. He is cut out of his Dad tiger with mannerisms, swings and body language identical. This kid will make it to the top, mark my words. He will win majors, that's a fact. I'm really looking forward to tuning in this weekend and not to watch Tiger either, but to watch the little man Charlie and chances are he's even better than last year!

That's it from me. Thanks for stopping by

The photos used throughout this post are all my own taken on my Samsung smart phone and are unedited

Peace out.

I was a pitch and putter myself and was hitting Commando's. Haha. Graduated to golf at 15 also but never got any good. Hit the pin on the par three 3rd in Clonmel last year. Ball dunked in and then came back out. That's the closest I have ever got to a hole in one. And if I get one it won't be meant. It will be a happy gilmore ping off the windmill and off a lads head joby

Hit the pin! No shit, that must have been damn close! Hopefully ya made the bird!

Played that par 3 today in the competition and I had a feckin 6! And i had started really well sitting on Even par through 4, after birdying 2 and 3 and bogeying 1 and 4 🙈

It was a real Jekyl and Hyde 14 hole round. 2 birdies, 4 pars, 4 bogeys, 1 double bogey, 3 triple bogeys. The triples were very avoidable too, bad course management 🙈

Ah you must be handy enough to be getting 2 birdies and 4 pars now. If I got 2 Birdies on a round I'd be delighted .

Arah, I'm a mixed bag. Play the odd hole well, but always a scratch or 2 or 3 to undo the good work. It was sweet getting two birdies now alright and lipped out on another green too.

Greens look damp which make things a hell of a lot easier. Always great to see them stick close to the flag and how good is Wood's kid Charlie.

Ya, the soft greens are a joy to play into, and I hit very high shots, so they sit straight down for me. The thing is though, the rest of the course is really soft, so errand shots can plug in the rough and be really hard to find. It happened me twice today leading to triple bogeys, which was a sickener, as I had a great round going.

Charlie looks the real deal doesn't he. It'll be interesting to see if he turns into the player his potential suggests he might.

Been playing almost 20 years and had plenty close calls.
Never got it to drop though. 😢

Can't wait to see tiger back in the field and his young lad is the cut of him. He is going to be good in the future. Might even be better.

Ya the close calls just keep racking up. I reckon I will get one some day, as you've got to put out positive vibes. Ya Charlie looks to be something special, hopefully he sticks with the golf, as apparently he's big into soccer as well. As you say he's cut out of the old man..

certainly worth taking a photo of that. I know a lot of golfers but I don't know anyone that has ever gotten a hole in one. Well done you!

Ya, the course was really quiet so it was easy to get some good pics, without feeling like a wanker!! I'll get one some day! Hitting the irons well these days, so you never know. Hit one straight at a pin today but landed 10 foot short, but was right at it!
