I could Tee it Up at Royal Liverpool

Ok, so first things first let's manage expectations, I don't mean that I could qualify for the Open Championship to play alongside Rory, Brooks, Scottie and co, that only happens in my dreams!

Right, so my game has been improving recently I am now a 13 handicap golfer, which I am happy about, but certainly not a pro or +8 golfer which you would need to be in order to compete with the world's best, I am still a mere 21 shots per round off their level!! The grid below will give you an idea of what the world's best handicaps are, in PGA and LIV competition they play of scratch, but if they wanted to tee it up at their home course some Sunday, this would be their handicap.

However, I do actually have a chance to tee it up a few days before the Open Championship starts at the R and A 9 hole amateur qualifier. How cool would that be!?

Local Qualifier

Me chipping a ball into the second green at Glenlo Abbey Golf club in Galway.

The first thing that I would need to do in order to qualify is win my local qualifier, which is happening tomorrow. Looking at the timesheet, there are not that many entering, so I reckon if I could get to 20 points for 9 holes, I would have a chance to qualify. That would mean me shooting 39 or 40 strokes for 9 holes, which is possible, but my personal best for 9 holes is 39, so I would have to bring my A game.

Regional Qualifier

Should I do that and qualify, I will be joined by the Lady qualifier and we would play as a team in Tubbercurry on June 9th and what an opportunity that would be.

These would be the other teams vying for a place on the plane to Liverpool, so as you can see, not that many other teams, so for me this is not a pipe dream, but rather a great opportunity and I will give it a right good go tomorrow.

Practice

The improvement in my game is certainly down to practice, especially my short game, which I spend some time on every week, chipping balls in the back garden and having a few putts on my putting mat.

The short game is paramount and the old expression driving for show, putting for dough holds true and although I am a good driver, it is the days when my putter is hot when I do well, so let's hope it is hot tomorrow!

Thanks a million for stopping by

Peace out.

Thanks a mil, I finished second 🙈 There is talk of the winner having a very high handicap and not wanting to compete in qualifier, so may get in yet! 🤞
