Man do I love golf and I just got a new toy!

My time

I love golf, I simply love golf. I play every Sunday morning bright and early as soon as the Sun comes up, albeit usually blocked by a curtain of grey clouds. I enjoy the early morning starts, as there is little to no hanging around to play your shots. If you were to leave it another hour or two, you'd easily add an hour to the round, as you'd get stuck in behind a group of fourballs who just stroll around the golf course and you would be almost guaranteed to be 4 hours plus out in the golf course, which is something that I would have no interest in. Any time a round goes more than that 4 hour mark, it gets to me, as golf is already a time-consuming pursuit, so any extra time is unwanted. To be completely honest though, the main reason is that I have a wife and three young children, so I want to be home by 11am in Summer time and before 12pm in Winter time, so that we can go out and do something as a family for the rest of the day or even just take the boys out someplace so that my wife can get a break.

The golf every Sunday though is a great outlet for me and it is officially my time. I don't play with the same guys every week or anything, but I have met some great people in those early slots in the morning, often in the same boat as myself, young kids at home and keen to make their way around the course quickly.

Easy for presents

I reckon if you asked my wife, her favorite thing about me playing golf, well maybe her only thing she likes about me playing golf, is that it is so easy to buy me presents for my birthday or for Christmas. Golf clubs, golf clothes, golf balls, range finders, golf shoes - the list goes on and on and on.

This year, she knew that I was eying up a new 3 wood and in all fairness my old 3 wood was behaving and was in excellent condition, but I hit a few balls on the digital range at my local golf shop and this bad boy was going 20 yards past my own three wood and it just felt easy and sounded gorgeous.

I traded in my old Callaway X Hot 3 wood , which was in great knick and a club that I really liked and indeed a club that helped me drain two recent eagles on par fives at my home club, where I hit Driver, 3 wood and putt twice in 7 days on different par 5s. They were sweet shots to see go in and one of the guys playing with me had never seen an eagle in the flesh, so it was cool to show him two weeks in a row at our Open competition.

Well I literally cannot wait to rip the plastic of this bad boy and give her a rip on one of the par fives and I may even tee off with it on a couple of holes too, particularly on our eight hole which is a dog leg that I often get into trouble on. I have birdied it a few times, but I would take your hand off for a bogey every time, as I have scratched or doubled it more times than I wish to remember.

Stiff Shaft

I swing my club pretty quick, so the shaft is always stiff and I love the Tensei stiff shaft on my Ping G410 which I treated myself to a few years ago with my golf winnings - that is a great thing about golf actually, when you win a few competitions or make some twos, you end up with money in your account, which is what paid for my driver, my Bushnell rangefinder and my Scotty Cameron putter. These things are all expensive and to be honest I don't think that I could justify the cost, unless they came from my winnings, so they are a really nice reward for doing well in competitions.

Roll on Tuesday when I am hoping to play our Tuesday open competition and give this bad boy its first day out.

The “toy” looks very cool. I have never played golf, but it surely looks interesting and peaceful in a way.

Enjoy your present!
