My Actifit Report Card: May 16 2023
This morning was cloudy and cool which was a nice change from the heat. My nephew and I walked his dog again.
The wood-chip manufacturers were loading the wood-chips onto the barge with their very long conveyer belt.
The picture above is a little blurry. Sorry about that.
There’s my nephew and dog slowly walking on the beach.
We drove to a quiet road away from the noise of the wood-chip mill with the conveyer belt and shovels on wheels. The dog loved walking through the long tall grass lol.
I finished the rest of my steps in my neighborhood walking half way up the hill and back.

What do they use the wood chips for? I can think of several products, but am curious.

Thank you @elizabethbit The wood-chip mill is across from where we walk. I don't use them myself. The mill happens to be there. Wood-chips are used in yards, maybe animal stalls and things like that. Oh I think there is the pressed wood the chips are used for too. I don't know the wood-chip owners. I know who they are because I looked it up online. I have only lived here for 3 years. It's an old logging town. It's very small and poor. I don't know what everything is or who owns what. It's a beautiful place though. I was looking up some of the history too. It's very interesting. At one time it was booming with work here, but you can only cut so many trees - then it's too much taken from the environment - the land. I feel for the people, but the land is not infinitely full of trees. It takes years for trees to grow back. 😊 Have a great week! !BBH !CTP
Thank you for taking the time to answer. I live in an area where they log the mountains. I know we need lumber for many things, but one of the things that really bugs me is that we are about 2.5 miles from a lumber mill. When we first moved here, we inquired about pricing. The response was, I'm sorry, we don't sell locally; it's shipped overseas! Okay, I can understand, but there are so many who would purchase from them, I'm sure.
I've seen mountains stripped and piles of rubble left over that remains for years and years. On the other hand, we have access to many miles of private land and trails where we live. The land owners are very gracious and allow us access 24/7. One such property is owned by a local land baron who is a logger. He is very, very diligent, about replanting the trees he logs. There is evidence of this stewardship of his land everywhere we hike. He is a responsible logger!

Hello @elizabethbit that is so frustrating about the wood going overseas and you not being able to buy the wood. I don't know if the wood-chip mill is local because they send it out on a barge. It's crazy isn't it. I hope they are good loggers that logs all the wood responsibly. There is a wood mill not far from them Dahlstrom Lumber about a mile down the road.
