A's get crushed by Mariners in opening game of series | Starting pitcher Gage Jump set to make MLB debut for A's tonight
Well, yesterday's game was over pretty quickly! Aaron Civale had a pretty catastrophic outing as he gave up SEVEN runs in four innings of work. He gave up six runs in the third inning alone. Civale also gave up three homers for the second consecutive start, he's given up eight in his last three. It appears his struggles stem from a case of right shoulder tendinitis and so the A's have placed him on the 15 day injured list. Hope he heals up well!
After that I mean, the game was a straight up snooze-fest. Offensively the A's could only scratch together two runs on seven hits. Shea Langeliers did hit his 13th homer and Nick Kurtz did extend his on-base streak to 48 games, so that's pretty cool at least!
The loss yesterday means the A's hold just a 1.5 game lead in the AL West over the Mariners. So if the A's were to get swept, of course that'd be bad. But if the A's win the next two over the Mariners, that'd be GOOD. Top notch analysis by yours truly what can I say? LOL. Still, this is a pretty critical late May series. The Rangers are just 2.5 games behind the A's, the Astros are 3.5 games behind, and the Angels are 7 games behind.
Since Aaron Civale is now unavailable for a bit, the A's have called up 23 year-old starting pitcher by the name of Gage Jump to make his MLB debut! He's apparently one of the A's better prospects, so this should certainly be interesting. Rookie Henry Bolte was recently called up and he's been good, perhaps Jump can help the team as well!
Interesting stuff, let's see how it goes! Both my baseball teams are 27-27 LOL.
#GOATHLETICS!!!
