Phillies lose third straight game! | Andrew Painter to make his debut today!
The Phillies got absolutely clobbered by the Nationals yesterday! My goodness! This has not been the start I was expecting from the Phillies. Only four games into the season but I'm as close to panicking as one can get this early. The season may be long, but with games nearly every day, the year can come at ya fast. With three losses under their belt, the Phillies have suffered nearly five percent of their total losses from 2025 when they lost sixty-six games.
The Nationals scored 13 runs and recorded 17 hits! The Phillies didn't have a chance. Taijuan Walker may be sent back to the bullpen or be off the team entirely soon enough as he has not been consistently effective since 2023 and last night he allowed seven runs on ten hits. Wild. Once Zack Wheeler returns I'm curious to see what the Phillies end up doing with him.
Oh yeah and Rob Thomson got ejected yesterday. Sheesh. Things are not clicking at the moment.
Well, perhaps there's one player that can add some hope to the team. Enter rookie starting pitcher Andrew Painter!
There's a lot of hype surrounding Painter. Painter was drafted by the Phillies with the 13th overall pick nearly five years ago and turns 23 on April 10th. So if Painter can show promise, the Phils could have 12-15 years of high quality pitching from Painter! This could be a big day in Phillies history!
I also just learned that Painter is 6'7"! I should have known this already but my goodness! Dude is a unit. When a pitcher is that tall, a 93 MPH pitch could easily look much faster as his size lessens the distance from the mound to home plate.
The Phillies need Painter more than ever after this horrible start to the season. I'm glad that the Phillies are testing out their young talent though. Justin Crawford, and now Andrew Painter. The Phillies are known to spend pretty big but it's always a big benefit for a franchise to be able to develop players in the minor league system.
Let's go Painter!
