Tennessee Titans May 2022 Off-Season Updates + Thoughts!

Late May is always a deceiving time of year. May just sort of still feels like an early part of the twelve month calendar year. It is, but it also isn't. The fact that May is a a short, quick three letter word probably doesn't help this sort of illusion. Before you know it May often zooms to August, then the rest of the year is filled with several major holidays. Just kinda crazy how the years can fly by. Autumn and Winter are jam packed with serious heavy hitting holidays. For football fans, before Halloween even hits, the first holiday of the holiday season is surely the kickoff of the regular season in early-mid September.

In the NFL world, teams around the league are pretty much in serious go mode right about now. June is just in a few days and July is when official training camp begins. Prior to that main July camp, there are several other significant procedures like rookie camp, organized team activities, and probably other mini camps sprinkled throughout.

Being a fan of an NFL team and pretty much any other sports team, is basically like enjoying the coolest most action packed TV series you can watch in my opinion. The content itself is pretty much the same. But hey, the cast is always changing and the seasons can last forever as long as the team and league stay intact. There is no true series finale, not until death.

The Titans finished up rookie camp a bit ago, and now they've been going through their voluntary OTA's.

Since the draft there's been a lot of small to moderate storylines in the the Titans' universe.

Quarterbacks Tannehill and Willis seem to be getting along just fine, despite the mainstream media trying to stir things up

Tannehill said he wasn't about to mentor a man who plays the same position as him in Malik Willis, and the media spazzed. Well, since then Tannehill has invited Willis and the Titans offense to his own house and there's been video evidence of Tannehill giving Malik some pointers at practice.

The media blew this way out of proportion as usual. I am obviously biased, but I believe all of this pressure and media attention is making Tannehill very focused. Just a gut feeling. He just seems like he wants to keep his job and then some. In clips and highlights from practice he seems sharp. Looks like he's in pretty good shape. I am biased, I want this dude to go off! It would be epic and really solidify his career and prove sooooo many wrong. If any player deserves success, I could make a strong case for Tannehill.

I've been hearing that Malik looks basically like a third round rookie. A mixed bag, but I have absolutely heard a lot of positives about his play as well. Malik will certainly not contend for the starting job in 2022, but I like the fact that the Titans have a young project QB with great upside on the roster. It's never a bad thing.

Treylon Burks bouncing back after a rough initial start

This may not have been as big of news if Treylon Burks wasn't basically tasked with replacing superstar WR A.J. Brown. A few weeks ago in Treylon's first ever rookie camp practice, Treylon basically gassed out and couldn't properly participate in significant portions of the practice.

Many were laughing and criticizing the Titans and Burks. But since then Burks has been bouncing back and slowly showing signs of his big play making ability. At least from what I can tell and have heard.

Hope for the Titans receiving core?

  • WR Dez Fitzpatrick was essentially labeled as a bust after his underwhelming 2021 rookie season. He has had a surprising start to his sophomore season, at least on the practice field anyway. Would be a nice surprising boost if he could develop when many, including myself, sorta wrote him off.

  • Rookie WR Kyle Phillips has been proving to be a practice field stud! Very quick player and well liked already by many.

  • New vet addition WR Robert Woods has been on the field and looking pretty promising. This is a great sight for Titans fans since Woods is coming off of an ACL tear from last year. Hopefully the recovery continues to be on point as it seems to be!

In general, there's been a lot of surprisingly good signs and reports in regards to the Titans receiving core. Maybe it's an attempt at good press by the Titans after letting A.J. go. Maybe I am biased. But still, the Titans actually have a fair amount of pass catchers going into this year. Odds are one of these dudes will be solid. Hopefully more than one.

I like what I'm seeing!

A sweet clip thanks to A to Z!

I've heard good things about TE Austin Hooper which is great. I think he has a lot to offer in the league still.

2021 rookies CB Caleb Farley and edge player Rashad Weaver both dealt with serious injuries last year, have been practicing which is awesome to see!

Here's what the Coach of the Year himself, Mike Vrabel has to say as of two days ago because, why not?

The grind towards the 2022 season is underway. Every fan of every team is feeling that optimism and that's a great thing. I am hyped to see how this team competes next year.

The Titans lost A.J. but this front office and coaching staff has been creating a winning culture that has produced six straight winning seasons. Before A.J. even arrived. It's been a fun time despite not winning it all yet.

All these pretty positive reports have me HYPED and many of the Titans best players haven't even arrived to these voluntary camps yet!

I can't say for sure how the 2022 season will go, but I don't think I am wrong to feel truly hopeful once again about this upcoming season. This roster has a lot of talent throughout each position!

106 days until the Titans face the Giants!! Let's go! #Titanup

Random full game! What a thriller!! OT win from last year!
