The world’s longest season is now history. After 82 battles, the NBA has separated the wheat from the chaff. While the Oklahoma City Thunder (64-18) and the Detroit Pistons (60-22) cemented their status as the undisputed masters of their conferences, the rest of the league was plunged into a chaos of epic matchups that kick off this very week.

This Tuesday, April 14, and Wednesday, April 15, eight teams enter the octagon. It doesn’t matter how many games you won during the season; here, it’s win or go home.

Eastern Conference:

76ers (7th) vs. Magic (8th): Joel Embiid versus the youth of Banchero. The winner goes straight to face the Celtics.

Hornets (9th) vs. Heat (10th): A do-or-die matchup tomorrow, Tuesday! If Miami loses, the “Heat Culture” is over for this year.

Western Conference:

Phoenix Suns (7th) vs. Portland Trail Blazers (8th): The Suns look to avoid the mud against a Blazers team that was the surprise of the season’s finish.

LA Clippers (9th) vs. Golden State Warriors (10th): A clash of wounded titans! Curry vs. Kawhi will battle for survival this Wednesday.

Confirmed First-Round Matchups

Eastern Conference:

(3) NY Knicks vs. (6) Atlanta Hawks: The rematch everyone wanted. The Hawks return to Madison Square Garden to try to silence the Big Apple.

(4) Cleveland Cavs vs. (5) Toronto Raptors: A physical series, low-scoring and heavy on defense.

Western Conference:

(3) Denver Nuggets vs. (6) Minnesota Timberwolves: The defending champions against the beast Anthony Edwards. Champagne basketball,

(4) LA Lakers vs. (5) Houston Rockets: Veteran LeBron, without Doncic due to injury, against the energy of the young Rockets led by the equally experienced Durant—this series is going to be a clash of styles.

The best records await at the top:

The OKC Thunder (1st in the West) and Detroit Pistons (1st in the East) will be watching from the sidelines until Sunday the 19th, waiting for the Play-In survivors.

The Boston Celtics (2nd in the East) and Victor Wembanyama’s surprising San Antonio Spurs (2nd in the West) also have their VIP seats secured.

What lies ahead is undoubtedly very exciting. The Thunder have a chance to repeat as champions, but the road will be tough with such strong and talented teams, so it’s hard to make predictions—but we can always try—while we enjoy the best basketball in the world.

¡Sobrevivir o Morir!

An 82 game regular season? That’s insane

Do fans really stay engaged with the competition for that long?

There are so many games; perhaps that’s why the U.S. men’s basketball team is so hard to beat—it’s a matter of trial and error from playing so many times, in addition to their talent. That’s also why European players in the NBA, who help strengthen their national teams, have significantly narrowed the competitive gap.

While NBA fans tend to be loyal, in my case, I really love basketball. I watch and analyze it—besides being a sport, it’s like a sports festival. Plus, it provides a lot of work for a large number of people who work in the arenas. In the end, it’s all very positive; it’s exhausting for the athletes, but it serves a common purpose.
