My Hobby Crush #283

I think hobbies show a part of our personality, the things that we enjoy even if we do not do them ourselves. Some hobbies are simple and easy to start alone. Others need to connect with people. There is one hobby I always admire when I see it but I never really get to do it in my free time.

The hobby I wish I could do more is volleyball. I like how cool players are and how everyone has these teamwork when I watch college volleyballs. The sound of the ball, the quick reactions and the cheering make it exciting to watch. It looks fun and very exciting especially when the game is intense. I feel interested every time I see students playing in the court.

I do get to play volleyball during PE classes in school. When the teacher divides us into teams I just follow along. I am shy but since everyone is required to play, I don't have to gather players to play with. I do my best to receive the ball and sometimes I even manage a good pass. It's really fun despite me not being too good at it.

The reason I cannot adopt it as a regular hobby is because volleyball is a team game. You need many people to play properly. Unlike drawing or reading, I cannot just start it alone at home. I would need to invite others or join a group which is hard for me since I get shy around people. Even inviting my classmates make it really hard for me. I always worry I might disturb them or they may already have something already planned. It's also awkward to think about cancelling it when you don't get enough people once you already invited others. The more people needed to play the game, the higher the hurdle feels. If I want to play, I usually just join if someone already is doing the planning but I can never try and start one due to my anxiety.

Still, I admire volleyball and hope someday I become more confident. Maybe, I will gather courage and ask a few classmates to schedule my own when I want to play. For now, I just enjoy playing when the chance comes during school.
