My Actifit Report Card: January 27 2024| First snow day in a while/久しぶりの雪の日/[ENG/JPN]

Two days ago, the strongest cold wave of this winter arrived in Japan and snow fell in my area.
It is really rare for snow clouds to reach Nagoya City, where I live.

Snow clouds come from the Sea of Japan side and hit high mountains and make it snow there.
Then the dry, cold air overcomes the mountains and reaches the Pacific Ocean side.
This is how snow falls in Japan.
In the case of Nagoya, dry and cold air comes from the mountains of Gifu Prefecture, where it has already accumulated snow.
It is really rare for snow to arrive on the Pacific Ocean side with snow in it.

Therefore, there is not much snow reaching here.
As you can see in the photo, there is a thin layer of snow. This may not be called a snowfall (laugh).
However, it is frozen solid because the temperature dropped dramatically at night.

This was taken during my morning walking before work, so this is the view at 5:00am.
The snow had not melted, especially on the bridge.

The city is warm because underground facilities such as sewers run under the roads, so the snow had melted considerably.
Compared to the evening of the previous day, there was less snow on the city streets.

The park's large grounds were also covered with snow.
Both the small and large slides were frozen in the same shape as the snow had fallen.

When I arrived at the station, there was powder snow on the tracks as well.

Unlike other regions where snow falls, Nagoya is a city with almost no snow removal preparations at all.
If more piled up, it would completely paralyze traffic.

2日前に日本にこの冬一番強い寒波がやってきて、私が住んでいるエリアにも雪が降りました。
私が住んでいる名古屋市にまで雪雲が到達するのは本当に稀なことです。

日本海側から雪雲がやってきて、高い山にぶつかってそこで雪を降らせます。
そして乾燥した冷たい空気になって山を乗り越え、太平洋側へ到達します。
これが日本に雪が降るメカニズムだそうです。
名古屋の場合、ほとんどは岐阜県の山々に雪を降らせ尽くした乾燥した冷たい空気がやってきます。
雪を含んだ状態で太平洋側へやってくるのは本当に珍しいです。

ですからここまで到達する雪は少ないです。
写真のように薄らと雪が積もりました。これは積雪とは呼べないかもしれません（笑）
でも、夜にぐっと気温が下がってがちがちに凍りついています。
そうなんです、これは粉雪が降ったように見えますが、さらさらではありません。
この状態で凍りついていて、気をつけて歩かないと滑ってしまいます。

これは私の朝の出勤前ウォーキングの時間に撮影したので、5:00amの風景です。
特に橋の上は雪が溶けずにかちこちになっていました。

市内は道路の下を下水道等の地下設備が通っていて暖かいので、雪はだいぶ溶けていました。
前日の夕方に比べると、街中の道路の雪は少なめでした。

公園の広いグラウンドにも雪が積もっていました。
小さい滑り台も大きい滑り台も、雪が降った姿そのまま凍りついていました。
今、この滑り台を滑ったら、お尻が凍りついてしまうでしょう。

道のそばに植えられている植物にも、雑草にも、等しく雪が降っています。
本当に美しい光景です。

木々の上に積もった粉雪が綺麗です。
赤い花や緑の葉との色の対比には見惚れてしまいます。

普段は全く気にかけていない歩道のタイルブロックですが、雪が降ったことで模様が浮かび上がります。
ブロックの隙間に雪が入り込んで輪郭を見せてくれます。

植え込みのパンジーも雪によって凍りついていました。
薄くて柔らかい花びらは無事だったようです。

駅に到着すると、線路の上にも粉雪が降り積もっていました。
このエリアに住んでいると滅多に見ることのない景色ばかりです。

雪が降る地方と異なり、名古屋市は除雪の準備がほとんど全くない都市です。
もっと積もったら、完全に交通が麻痺してしまいます。
ホーム上は凍結防止のための塩化カルシウムが撒いてありました。

本当に非日常的な光景です。
もっとたくさん雪が降る地方では、天気予報で大雪警報が発令されていました。
ですから、私のように「綺麗だな」なんてことを言っている状況ではないでしょう。
災害クラスの大雪でしたが、翌日は晴れたようなので、皆様の無事を祈ります。

枯れ草の上に積もった雪が美しいです。

このような感じの枯れ草は、アンドリュー・ワイエスの絵を思い出させます。
私はアンドリュー・ワイエスの絵画作品が本当に大好きです。
数年前に展覧会が巡回してきた時に観に行きました。
繊細で力強く、枯れているように見えてもどれも皆生きていて、世界を構成している、そう感じます。

私は雨や雪が好きで、なぜ好きなのかというと、平等で公平だと感じるからです。
丁寧に植えられた植物であっても、雑草であっても、同様に雨や雪にうたれます。
大型の高級車も、カジュアルなコンパクトカーも同じです。
それがアンドリュー・ワイエスの作品世界と重なります。

生命力の強さは美しさを感じます。
このような光景を見られて幸せな朝でした。

■ひとこと日記
今日は電車に乗って出掛けて、乗り換え駅で忘れ物をしてしまいました。
ホーム上にある待合室に、荷物を入れたバッグを置いて電車に乗ってしまったのでした。
幸いすぐ気づいて次の駅で降り、歩いて取りに戻ることができて無事見つかりました。
その後の予定にもぎりぎり間に合い、ホッと胸を撫で下ろしました。
