I am writing this article about a time (long after all this time has passed) when I ate a cup of soba noodles in late January.
This soba was actually supposed to be eaten at the end of the year 2023, on December 31.

In Japan, the word "Soba" means "to break the bad ties of the past year at the end of the year, and to continue the good ties of the coming new year for a long and thin year".
The custom is to eat thin and long soba noodles at the end of the year with the hope that the bad connections of the past year will be severed at the end of the year and the good connections of the coming new year will continue for a long and thin period.

It is called Toshikoshi-Soba.

The reason why I am eating cup-noodle soba noodles in late January 2024, when I had already finished eating them at the end of the year, is that I had originally planned not to return to my parents' house at the end of the year, but I ended up changing my plans and went home.
I ate the soba noodles with my relatives at my parents' home.

Therefore, this cup noodle is a cup noodle that "passed the year". (Laughs)

As discussed in detail in this article, Japan has a "February Setsubun", which is another important yearly milestone.
Based on the idea that here "the New Year begins again," we decided to eat soba noodles at the end of January.

This cup noodle is a special version planned and produced by the manufacturer for the end of the year.
The kakiage tempura on top is said to have been devised to be more crispy and crunchy.

Also, the dashi (soup stock) used for the soba noodles has been carefully prepared to make it even tastier.
The packaging was also flashy, as it was a combination of six different tastes.
It feels like the perfect way to start a new year.

One of my "dreams to achieve" is "New Year's Eve Camping".
I am planning a "New Year's Eve to New Year's Day" New Year's Eve Camp at several campgrounds in Japan.

And at the moment the date changes, everyone shouts "Happy New Year! (laugh).
On January 1, we will eat ozoni (a traditional Japanese New Year's dish) and make rice cakes (mochi).

You can choose to participate in such events or spend a quiet New Year's morning.
People who share the common hobby of "going camping" spend that day like friends, not strangers.

This year I chose to go home to my parents' house, so I didn't camp over New Year's.
But I wanted to at least feel like camping, so I used the kettle I use outdoors to boil water.
With that water, I made soba noodles in a cup.
Trangia is a Swedish manufacturer of camping equipment.

It is ready.
Now, let's eat.

It was topped with chopped green onions and served. This soba was our lunch for the day.
The broth was indeed very tasty.

I prefer udon to soba in terms of noodles, so I rarely have a chance to eat soba.
But I felt again that it is good to eat something traditional at such seasonal milestones.

Yesterday I had an interior remodeling project that I was in charge of and came home very tired.
I went to bed with no time to write an article, but I was able to select "Yesterday" from the app.

1月の下旬にカップ麺のお蕎麦を食べた時のことを（今更だいぶ時間が経っていますが）記事にします。
このお蕎麦は本当は2023年の年末、12月31日に食べる予定でした。
日本では
「これまでの1年の悪いつながりを年末に断ち切り、来たる新しい1年の良いつながりを細く長く継続する」
という願いを込めて切れやすく、細く長いお蕎麦を年末に食べる習慣があります。
「年越しそば（Toshikoshi-Soba）」です。

なぜ、年末に食べ終えているカップ麺お蕎麦を2024年の1月下旬に食べているかというと、当初は年末に実家に帰省しない予定でしたが、結局予定を変更して帰省したからです。
お蕎麦は実家で親戚と一緒に食べました。

よってこのカップ麺は「年を越してしまった」カップ麺です。（笑）

この記事で詳しく述べましたが、日本には「2月の節分」があり、これも重要な1年の節目です。
ここで「もう一度新年が始まる」という考え方に基づいて、1月の終わりにお蕎麦を食べることにしました。

このカップ麺はメーカーが年末のために企画・製造したスペシャルバージョンです。
上に乗せるかき揚げ天ぷらがよりさくさくとした歯応えになるように工夫してあるそうです。

また、そばの出汁つゆもより美味しくなるよう様々な工夫が凝らされているようです。
6種類の旨味を組み合わせているということで、パッケージも派手派手でした。
新しい1年をスタートするのにぴったりな気分になります。

私の「達成したい夢」の一つに「年越しキャンプ」があります。
日本ではいくつかのキャンプ場で「大晦日から新年元旦」の年越しキャンプを企画しています。

そして日付の変わる瞬間にみんなで「新年おめでとう！」と叫びます（笑）
1月1日には日本の伝統的な正月の料理として、お雑煮を食べたり、餅つきをします。

そのようなイベントに参加しても良いし、静かに新年の朝を過ごすことも選べます。
「キャンプをする」という共通の趣味の人たちが、その日だけは他人ではなく友人のように過ごします。

今年は実家に帰省する選択をしたので、年越しキャンプはしませんでした。
でも、気分だけでもキャンプを感じようと思い、アウトドアで使用しているケトルを使い、お湯を沸かしました。
そのお湯でカップ麺のお蕎麦を作りました。
トランギアというのは、スウェーデンのキャンプ道具のメーカーです。

出来上がりました。
さあ、いただきます。

ネギを刻んでトッピングし、いただきました。このお蕎麦は、この日の昼ごはんになりました。
確かにお出汁がとても美味しかったです。

私は麺類ではお蕎麦よりもうどんの方が好きなので、そばを食べる機会は少ないです。
けれど、このような季節の節目に伝統のものを食べるのは良いことだと改めて感じました。

■ひとこと日記
昨日は私が担当の内装改造工事があり、非常に疲れて帰宅しました。
記事を書く余裕がなくて寝てしまいましたが、アプリから「Yesterday」を選択できました。
初めて「Yesterday」の歩数を反映させて投稿しています。
