I actually made the "disaster prevention bottle" that I introduced in an article a few days ago.
I will try to write an article about it as well as introduce the contents.

The purpose of the "disaster prevention bottle" is to protect yourself immediately after a disaster by carrying it in your bag on a regular basis in case you are suddenly struck by a disaster one day.

The following is a list of standard items to include in your disaster prevention bottle, in no particular order.

• Mask: During a disaster, the environment is often filled with dirt and dust. Also a necessity to prevent colds.
• Candy: Simple food. Something that can take in sugar. Something that does not melt or stain easily.
• Cash: Minimal, as electronic money and cards will be inoperable. Coins for pay phones.
• Medicine: Cold and headache medicine. I also have rhinitis medicine and cough medicine. Band-Aids, etc. can also go in here.
• Tenugui towel: something not too bulky and easy to use like a towel...I chose tenugui tentatively here.

• Film soap: Thin film soap. Useful for washing hands, but also questionable for washing hands when water is precious.
• Writing utensils: Ballpoint pen, oil-based pen, and sticky notes. The oil-based pen is quite important.
• Penlight: A small LED light. A set of spare button batteries as well. The light will be important for a while.
• Plastic bags: Plastic bags are put together with rubber bands. The paper bag has an aluminum pouch inside and holds sanitary products.

The goal of the "disaster prevention bottle" is to protect yourself for a few hours immediately after a disaster.
Therefore, what you want to put in the bottle is different for each person. There is no "perfect" bottle.
In this case, we will be packing the nine items listed above.

If I put them in the bottle separately, they will be scattered when I take them out, so I thought about it a lot.
As a result, I realized that it would be better to put them all in a thin plastic bag first, and then put them in the bottle.

I put the nine items into the plastic bag and try to shape it so that it is long and narrow.
It looks like everything will fit in a good way.
When I actually put them in the bottle, I was able to slip them in with room to spare and take them out smoothly.

First, I packed all the "small stuff" in a plastic bag and put a ballpoint pen and an oil-based pen in the empty space.
I dared to put the ballpoint pen and oil-based pen separately because I felt that they might tear the plastic bag when I took them out if I put them in the plastic bag with the other items.

In this state, there is enough room at the mouth of the bottle, so I rounded up the tenugui and stuffed it in to complete the process.
Let's measure how much it weighs with all these things stuffed into it.

It was 251g!
This is a pretty excellent number.
I have read some articles on the Internet about disaster prevention bottles, and it seems that "keeping the weight within 300g" is a good idea.
I actually tried to carry it, but it feels heavy to "keep it in my bag" if it weighs more than 400 grams.

I was wondering earlier whether to put "film soap" in this bottle.
Water is precious in times of disaster, and you can't use that much water to wash your hands with soap.
So what if I want to clean my hands and fingers, a hand gel containing rubbing alcohol is more practical.

I added a small bottle of alcohol/hand gel that I bring with me when I go mountain climbing or camping, and it came to 319 grams.
With this increase, I can carry it around with no problem.

We want to include something to keep our fingers clean, so we decide to restructure the large-volume "hand towel".
Instead, we considered "compressed towels.
These are pressed non-woven fabrics and are put together very small.

When a small amount of water is added, it expands and becomes usable.
The one I bought this time is 60cm x 30cm, which is quite large; you can see its size when you compare it with a 500mL PET bottle.

However, when dried and compressed, it is really small, and even in its individually wrapped package, it is very much smaller than a tenugui, which I found saves the volume of the bottle.

As you can see by comparing the two photos above, I have created a lot of room.
What I would add to this space is

• Liquid adhesive bandage: Apply it to the wound and let it harden to protect the affected area. It can be applied like nail polish.
• Gel antiseptic solution: separate from hand gel, this one is for "disinfecting wounds".
• Hand gel with alcohol ingredients: This is for keeping hands clean.

Liquid adhesive bandages and gel disinfectant are enough to fit.
If these two can be put in, most of the finger wounds and small cuts that I usually worry about are solved.
The hand gel is a small bottle, but it is still large compared to the other two and still needs to be considered.

It occurred to me to try it, and this non-woven towel was easy to split.
If someone is in need of a towel, I can split it in half with me.
If the non-woven towel is split in half, the other person can use it without hesitation.

Now, restringing the tenugui, I add the compressed towel, liquid adhesive bandage, and gel disinfectant, and weigh it.

It was 276g!
I am still able to keep it within 300g, so I want to reexamine the bulky items and look at what I "really need" more.

By the way, if I add hand gel to this, it was 343g.
I think this is the limit. If it gets any heavier, it will be hard to carry around.

It is important to review the contents of the bottle from time to time and make it to your own specifications.
I will also carry this bottle in my backpack and reexamine the contents from time to time.

防災ボトルに入れておきたい標準的なものを順番に挙げていきます。

• マスク：災害の時は土ボコリが舞い上がる環境になることが多いです。また風邪予防に必需品。
• キャンディ：簡単な食料。糖分を摂れるもの。溶けたり汚れたりしにくいものが良いですね。
• 現金：電子マネーやカードは使えない状態になるので最低限。公衆電話用にコインを用意。
• 常備薬：風邪薬や頭痛薬など。私は鼻炎薬と咳止めも。バンドエイドなどもこちらへ入れます。
• 手ぬぐい：あまり嵩張らなくて、使い勝手のよいタオル的なもの…ここでは仮に手ぬぐいを選択しました。

• フィルム石鹸：薄いフィルム状の石鹸。手を洗う時に便利だが、水が貴重な時に手を洗うか疑問もある。
• 筆記用具：ボールペンと油性ペンと付箋を用意しました。油性ペンは結構重要だと思います。
• ペンライト：小さなLEDライト。予備のボタン電池もセットで。灯りはしばらく重要になります。
• ビニール袋：ビニール袋を輪ゴムでまとめています。紙袋は内側がアルミパウチで生理用品を入れています。

「防災ボトル」は被災直後に数時間自分の身を守ることが目標です。
なので、人によってボトルに入れておきたいものは違います。「これでパーフェクト」というのはありません。
今回は上記の9つの品物を詰めていきます。

バラバラにボトルに入れると、取り出す時に散らかってしまうので色々考えました。
その結果「先に薄手のビニール袋に全て入れてからボトルに詰める」のが良いようだと気づきました。

9つの品物をビニール袋に入れて、縦長になるように形を整えてみます。
良い感じに全て収まりそうです。
実際にボトルに入れると、余裕をもって滑り込ませることが出来、取り出すのもスムーズでした。

まず「細かいもの」をビニール袋に入れて全て詰め、空いた隙間にボールペンと油性ペンを入れました。
ボールペンと油性ペンは、ビニール袋に他のものと一緒に入れてしまうと、取り出す時にビニール袋を破ってしまいそうな気配があったので、敢えて別にしました。

この状態でボトルの口の部分が十分に余裕があるので、手ぬぐいを丸めて詰め込んで完成です。
これだけのものを詰め込んで、一体重さはいくらぐらいになっているのか測定しましょう。

251gでした！
これはかなり優秀な数字です。
防災ボトルに関するインタネット上の記事をいくつか読みましたが「300g内外に収める」のが良いようです。
実際に持ってみるとわかるのですが「400gを超える重さ」は「カバンに入れておく」のは重く感じます。

先ほど「フィルム石鹸」をこのボトルに入れるか悩みました。
災害の時は水が貴重ですから、石鹸で手を洗う用途に水がそんなにたくさん使えません。
では手や指を清潔にしたい時はどうするかというと、消毒用アルコールを含むハンドジェルの方が現実的です。

私が山登りに行く時やキャンプへ行く時に持参しているアルコール・ハンドジェルの小さなボトルを追加してみたところ、319gになりました。
このくらいの増加であれば問題なく持ち歩けます。

手指の清潔を保つものを入れたいので、体積の大きな「手ぬぐい」をリストラしてみることにします。
代わりに「圧縮タオル」を検討しました。
こちらは不織布をプレスしてあるもので、とても小さくまとめられています。

少量の水を含ませるとみるみる膨らみ、使える状態になります。
私が今回買ってみたのは60cm×30cmで、かなり大きめです。500mLのペットボトルと比べると大きさがわかります。

しかし、乾燥・圧縮されている時は本当に小さく、個包装のパッケージに入った状態でも手ぬぐいよりとても小さくて、ボトルの容積を節約できることがわかりました。
詰め替えてみます。

上の2枚の写真を比較すると分かります通り、かなりの余裕が生まれました。
私がこの空間に追加したいのは

• 液体絆創膏：傷口に塗って、固めて患部を守る。マニキュアのように塗れます。
• ジェル状の消毒液：ハンドジェルとはまた別で、こちらは「傷口の消毒用」のもの。
• アルコール成分入りハンドジェル：手指の清潔を保つもの。

液体絆創膏とジェル消毒液は十分入りました。
この2つが入れられれば、私が普段気になる指のささくれや小さな切り傷のほとんどが解決です。
ハンドジェルは小瓶ですが、他の2つに比べるとやはり大きく、まだ検討が必要です。

ふと思いついて試してみたのですが、この不織布のタオルは、簡単に割くことが出来ました。
タオルが欲しくて困っている人がいたら、私と半分こしてあげることが出来ます。
不織布を半分にしたものなら、相手の人も遠慮なく使えると思います。

さて、手ぬぐいをリストラし、圧縮タオルと液体絆創膏とジェル消毒液をプラスして、重さを図ります。

276gでした！
まだ300g以内に収めることが出来ているので、嵩張るものを再検討してもっと「本当に必要なもの」を見つめ直していきたいです。

ちなみにここにハンドジェルを追加したら、343gでした。
ここが限界だと思います。これ以上重くなると持ち歩くのが大変。

ボトルの中身は時々見直して、自分仕様に仕上げていくことが大事ですね。
私もこのボトルをリュックに入れて持ち歩き、時々中身を再検討してみようと思います。

■ひとこと日記
冬に逆戻りしたかのように、本当に寒い日でした。風が強くて冷たい。
このような時に災害に遭ったら、ということを想像することが大切です。
想像力を働かせることが自分を守り、周りの人を守ることになる、そう感じます。
