Duplantis y McLaughlin reinan en Mónaco (esp/eng)
Cómo una historia ya vivida hace tres años puede catalogarse la más reciente entrega de la Gala Anual de World Athletics, que desde su sede habitual del Principado de Mónaco volvió a acaparar las luces para distinguir lo que más brilló en la temporada que se despide.
El pertiguista sueco Armand Duplantis y la corredora estadounidense Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone quedaron como los mejores en cada sexo y es en ese apartado en el que la “película” es un remake de lo vivido en 2022 y mucho más atrás en 2018. Hace cinco años ambos compartieron protagonismo en la categoría de Estrellas Emergentes, como muy clara señal de lo que lograrían después y en 2022 también fueron elegidos los más sobresalientes de la campaña y en esta ocasión sobran motivos para saber que nuevamente la designación es justa.
Mondo dice adiós a otra temporada de altos vuelos… campeón mundial al aire libre y bajo techo, quebró cuatro veces su propio récord del orbe que quedó por ahora en 6,30 metros y transitó imbatible por 16 competencias desde enero a la fecha. Si todo eso no fuera suficiente aval, vale añadir que se convirtió en el primer pertiguista de la historia en completar dos temporadas consecutivas sin conocer la derrota.
A McLaughlin-Levrone tampoco pueden ponerle peros, incluso sabiendo que otras podrían haber recibido el premio máximo. Ella decidió probar este año en los 400 metros –dejó en pausa su prueba principal de los 400 con vallas– y lo hizo tan bien que hasta campeona mundial no paró. Borró de los libros una plusmarca nacional que tenía 42 años de vigencia, y además su tiempo de 47.78 segundos quedó anotado como el segundo mejor de la historia en el ranking universal. Solo 18 centécimas por detrás del tope impuesto por la alemana Marita Koch en 1985 (47.60).

Duplantis and Mclaughlin reign in Monaco
How a story already lived three years ago can be cataloged as the most recent installment of the World Athletics Annual Gala, which from its usual venue in the Principality of Monaco once again monopolized the lights to distinguish what shone most in the season that is ending.

Mondo says goodbye to another high-flying season... outdoor and indoor world champion, he broke his own world record four times, which currently stands at 6.30 meters and has gone unbeaten through 16 competitions from January to date. If all that were not enough support, it is worth adding that he became the first pole vaulter in history to complete two consecutive seasons without defeat.
McLaughlin-Levrone can't be faulted either, even knowing that others could have received the top prize. She decided to try the 400 meters this year – she put her main event of the 400 hurdles on hold – and she did so well that she didn't even stop as a world champion. He erased from the books a national record that was 42 years old, and his time of 47.78 seconds was also recorded as the second best in history in the universal ranking.
