El pasado 20 de enero, los Cangrejeros de Santurce se proclamaron campeones de la liga invernal del béisbol puertorriqueño. En ese equipo sobresalió como Jugador Más Valioso (MVP) de la final Yohandy Morales, hijo del pelotero cubano Andy Morales, célebre por su jonrón decisivo ante los Orioles de Baltimore.
Yohandy es tendencia en Puerto Rico tras coronarse campeón y MVP de la final de la liga invernal. El espigado pelotero de 24 años, capaz de desempeñarse en la primera y la tercera base, fue pieza clave para que los Cangrejeros derrotaran en seis partidos a los Leones de Ponce, en una serie por el título pactada al mejor de nueve juegos. Santurce obtuvo así su decimoséptima corona, mientras el cubanoamericano vivía una experiencia determinante para pulir su talento. Pero, ¿por qué detenerse en lo hecho por Morales hijo en la liga boricua? El toletero derecho se incorporó cuando el tramo regular de la temporada 2025-2026 ya estaba bastante avanzado y, aun así, registró un impresionante promedio ofensivo de .395 en 44 turnos oficiales. A ello sumó ocho extrabases (incluido un jonrón) y seis carreras impulsadas. Números sobresalientes que confirmaron su consistencia en el bateo de contacto.
La postemporada le deparó a Santurce una semifinal ante los Criollos de Caguas, antes de coronarse frente a Ponce. Yohandy Morales lideró los hits al sumar, entre ambas instancias del campeonato, 17 imparables para un promedio ofensivo de .386, que combinó con un porcentaje de embasado (OBP) de .471, ocho carreras impulsadas y seis extrabases. De sus 12 juegos en estos playoffs, el más destacado fue el tercero de la final, en el que se fue de 3-2, con cuadrangular, doble, tres remolques y un pelotazo.
El hecho de que Yohandy sea capaz de rendir en la pelota del Caribe donde se juega “más caliente” y la presión suele ser mayor que en las Ligas Menores– sienta un precedente alentador de cara a su futuro profesional además de que MLB Pipeline lo situase en el puesto 21 de entre los 50 mejores prospectos de la franquicia Nacionales de Washington, a la cual ya ha escalado al nivel de Triple A y ha recibido invitaciones al Spring Trainning

On January 20, the Santurce Cangrejeros were proclaimed champions of the Puerto Rican baseball winter league. On that team, Yohandy Morales, son of Cuban baseball player Andy Morales, famous for his decisive home run against the Baltimore Orioles, stood out as Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the final.
