Los Yankees de New York culminaron la primera semana de la Gran Carpa con balance de cinco ganados y un solo descalabro. Los dirigidos por el controversial Aaron Boone, quien como dirigente no ha tenido el mismo nivel que como jugador de los Bombarderos del Bronx en la década de los 2000. Los neoyorquinos comandan desde ya la división este de la Liga Americana, buscando ganar otro anillo y romper la sequía de más de 14 años, cuando ganaron el Clásico de Otoño ante los Phillies de Philadelphia en el ya lejano 2009
Los dirigentes de la Gran Manzana, Brian Cashman y el presidente del club, el señor George Steinbrenner, se enfrascaron en no romper la columna vertebral del conjunto a tal punto de pujar fuertemente por el All-Star Cody Bellinger, comenzaron la temporada con ímpetu barriendo a los Gigantes de San Francisco en su propio estadio y a pesar de los fríos bates yanquistas, promedian solo 227 y promediando solo cuatro carreras por juego han fabricado las pocas carreras que han hecho (24) sin depender tanto de los jonrones, solo cinco han conectado los del Bronx, algo inusual en ellos. Pero lo más destacado hasta el momento de los máximos campeones del béisbol estadounidense es su pitcheo hasta el momento
El cuerpo de lanzadores yanquistas solo ha permitido seis carreras, a razón de una por partido (líderes de toda la MLB con un impresionante promedio de carreras de 1.01), empatando una marca de más de 94 años de los Cardenales de San Luis de menos carreras permitidas en los primeros seis juegos de una temporada regular. Además los lanzadores han dominado a su antojo a los rivales, con tres lechadas en su haber. Sus lanzallamas han estado muy controlados, a tal punto de ser los primeros en boletos concedidos en la liga con solamente doce pasaportes intencionales y siendo el único conjunto hasta hoy en no permitir jonrones. Y eso que los de la del puente del Bronx tienen muchas bajas en este inicio de temporada, sobretodo en sus abridores estrellas: Clarke Schmidt, Gerrit Cole y el cubano-americano Carlos Rodón tienen lesiones de larga duración como la Tommy John en el caso de Cole. Pero no hubo problemas porque Ryan Weathers, ex-Marlins ha venido a encajar de maravilla en una rotación solida encabezada por los diestros Will Warren y Cam Schlitter y el zurdo Max Fried como el AS de la baraja, teniendo por detrás a nombres como Fernando Cruz, Tim Hill, Ryan Yarbrough, Camilo Doval y compañia que le hacen llegar en múltiples ocasiones el juego con ventaja al cerrador David Bednar. ¿Veremos si los Yankees podrán este año quitarse el San Benito de no ganar un clásico de Octubre?
