World Cup 2026: What the draw left

Last week, specifically on Friday, FIFA, the governing body of world football, revealed the path of the 48 teams that will compete in the 23rd edition of the World Cup, which for the first time will take place in three countries. Here I leave you my opinion about the groups, matches and some news about the most important football event in the world

📍 GROUP A
🇲🇽 Mexico
🇿🇦 South Africa
🇰🇷 South Korea
❓ Denmark, Macedonia, Czech Republic or Ireland

🎙 Quite balanced group, one of the classifieds that can change the dynamics of the group still needs to be defined

☑️ My favorites to advance to the round are Mexico, Korea and waiting for the other qualifier that could enter the knockout phases

💪 3rd time that Mexico and Korea will face each other in the World Cup (1998; 2018)

➖ For the 2nd time Mexicans and South Africans will be seen at World Cup venues (2010). For more coincidence, both matches have been the opening matches in both events, on the same day (June 11) and in venues shared by both countries South Africa 2010 and Mexico 2026

🎙Without a doubt the group of death with the confrontation between the two exponents of current football: Erling Haaland and Julián Mbappe

That said, FIFA announced the schedule of the 109 matches that the World Cup will host, among which the following stand out:

The highest entity in world football also announced at the ceremony some particularities that this World Championship will have:

➡️ Coaches will be able to take up to 26 players to the World Cup

➡️ The 15 substitutes may be on the bench and at the coach's disposal

➡️ There will be Hydration Breaks like in the 2025 Club World Cup due to high temperatures. The person in charge of deciding when the break will be taken will be the referee and must do so between minutes 25 and 30 of each half.

➡️ The goal difference will not be the one that defines the classification in the event of a tie between two or more teams in the Group Stage. The first criterion will be the match they played against each other and the winner will have priority.

👉 If the situation cannot be resolved in this way, the following criteria will follow:

1️⃣ Greater difference in goals obtained in group matches between the teams in question

2️⃣ Highest number of goals scored in group matches between the teams in question

3️⃣ Greater goal difference in all group matches

4️⃣ Highest number of goals scored in all group matches

5️⃣ Greater number of points obtained for sports conduct of players and coaching staff according to the number of cards received
