Heading to the World Classic (Part III)

In this third and penultimate writing, we analyze in more depth the rivals of the Cuban team that will participate in the sixth edition of the largest balls and strikes event in the world. Today we will be discovering the hosts, Team Rubio

The Cuban and Puerto Rican teams have only met twice in the history of the World Classics, certainly 20 years ago in the first edition of the great event and on the same grass where they will meet again: the Hiram Bithorn in San Juan. On that occasion, both Puerto Ricans and Cubans shared a group and in that first game the Puerto Rican team emerged victorious with a beating of twelve runs to two included to go as first in the group and relegate the then surprise of the tournament to second place. For the second round of the tournament in the same stadium, both teams reached the final duel of that round, defining the pass to the semifinals and who would be the rival of the Dominican Republic at Petco Park in San Diego. Possible Alignment

The starter already confirmed to pitch to the largest of the Antilles will be the youngster Elmer Rodríguez, #1 prospect of the New York Yankees. The 22-year-old right-hander, born on August 18, 2003 and selected in the fourth round of the Draft by the Red Sox in 2021, has a record in the minors of 22 wins and 19 losses in the four seasons he has accumulated there with a phenomenal earned run average of 2.59 in 333.1 innings pitched with 371 strikeouts and only 142 walks. In his extensive repertoire, his powerful four-seam fastball stands out, with which he has reached 97mph in addition to having pitches such as Cutter, Sinker, Slider, Change and Curve in his arsenal.
