Larry Is Alive #115 August 02, 2023 I Am Alive Challenge

Hello everyone. Welcome to the second day of the month of August 2023. This appears to be a very late hunt for Larry the postman. However, am glad Larry was finally hunted. Gentlemen, more teams have exited the ongoing Women's World Cup 2023 co-hosted by New Zealand and Australia. In the four matches played on 2/8/2023, everyone expected the Brazilian ladies to run riot against the Jamaicans but alas, they ended up playing goalless (0-0) with Jamaica. Panama who squared up against France were mauled (3-6) by the French ladies, Argentina played Sweden lost (0-2) and Italy also lost to South Africa (3-2). With this final round of group matches in their groups, Brazil, Argentina, Italy and Panama have all been sent packing from the competition having failed to make it beyond their groups.

The final round of group matches holds on 3/8/2023 with South Korea facing Germany and Colombia playing against Morocco. Colombia tops the group with six points with Germany and Morocco having three points each. South Korea has none. Who goes home from the group with South Korea? We'll find out at the conclusion of the matches later. Larry then turns his attention to have a look at today in #history.

Larry begins his look at today in history from Kuwait. He finds out that on this day in 1990, Iraq invaded Kuwait and Saddam Hussein's subsequent refusal to remove his troops thereat sparked the Persian Gulf War, in which an international coalition led by the United States quickly crushed Iraq.

From Kuwait, Larry moves to Africa, precisely Egypt. He finds out that on this day in 2016, Ahmed Hassan Zewail, the Egyptian born chemist, who became the first Egyptian and the first Arab to win a Nobel Prize in a science category (chemistry) in 1999, died at the age of 70 in Pasadena, California, USA.

From Egypt, Larry moves into the world of sports particularly Olympics. He finds out that on this day in 1992, at the Summer Olympics in Barcelona, American Jackie Joyner-Kersee, widely regarded as the greatest female athlete of all time, won the heptathlon, becoming the first person to do it in consecutive Games.

Heptathlon is an athletics competition in which contestants take part in seven different track-and-field events in two days.

From the world of Olympics, Larry goes into the events of the WWII. He finds out that on this day in 1943, PT-109, a US Navy torpedo boat commanded by John F. Kennedy, was sunk by a Japanese warship during WWII.

Larry then moves to France as he finds out that on this day in 1830, Charles X of France abdicated the throne after failing to withstand the July Revolution.

Finally, Larry rounds off his look at today in history from motherland Nigeria. He finds out that on this day in 1997, Olusegun Oludotun Ransome-Kuti, also called Fela Anikulapo-Kuti, and popularly known as Fela, a Nigerian musician and activist who pioneered Afro-beat music by combining American blues, jazz, and funk with traditional Yoruba music died in Lagos, Nigeria at the age of 58.

Having seen all these pieces of historical events, Larry picks up some of his parcels and heads out to begin his deliveries.
