First Impressions: La Liga and Premier League's Sunday Games

Mulan

Greetings

The three remaining matches in game week 4 in the Premier League along with Barcelona and Real Madrid matches were played on Sunday. Below are my impressions of the matches I watched.

Wolverhampton Wanderers 1 - 1 Newcastle

The Wolves are finally arriving in the English Premier League after a series of disappointing results. The Wolves are still to win a game yet but Newcastle are still to lose a game. So, it's not likeiswcastle are an easy game so getting a draw against them is impressive, especially since we're speaking about a team who drew against Manchester City and were two goals up at some point.

The Wolves, however, still seem to be a bit out of sync. The team's movement doesn't seem to be well coordinated. It might be a matter of time before everything clicks and we get a decent mid-table team out of the Wolves, especially since the individual names all have quality.

Newcastle, on the other hand, are still showing the spirit which got them the 11th spot last season. However, there are still signs of why Newcastle are the kind of team that could pull impressive pences every now anis d then but still far from being a top 6 team.

Aston Villa 0 - 1 West Ham

Not a lot to say here as Aston Villa aren't exactly a team we were expecting much from. West Ham's slow start is getting the spotlight more now that Manchester United and Liverpool are having their awakening.

West Ham have spent €182.00m so far with very littlMoyes may beat Moyes and is still finding a way to make the best of the players available as the signings adjust to football in England. We still need a few morconcludeusion about West Ham but the win is a step in the right direction.

Nottingham Forest 0 - 2 Tottenham

Tottenham continue knowing exactly how to get the points. The Spurs didn't get carried away to get meaningless goals and kept their shape throughout the match despite facing a newly promoted team. The team looks fully focused on getting the maximum amount of points possible without paying too much attention to personal numbers.

Nottingham Forest look like a team that could stay in the league eventually, especially with sides like Everton, Bournemouth, and Leicester seeming to be an ambitionless fall. But, my conclusion depends on their 17 new signings working out eventually and finding their chemistry.

FC Barcelona 4 - 0 Valadoalid

Valladolid aren't exactly the club to show whether Barcelona can go the distance or not. But, we did see the players on the team getting along more with the wing's fluidity being a huge source of danger.

Robert Lewandowski scored a second brace in a row with a very convincing performance. However, I can't help but feel that the Polish striker isn't made for Barcelona's football style under Xavi as he's not a target man or a moving striker, just a box striker. He's one of if not the best at what he does but what he does isn't typically associated with Barcelona's style.

Time will tell whether I am right or wrong as Barcelona will against Sevilla next. While the latter isn't in the best place, they're still a respectable team to face. So, by the next game, we might learn where Barca is heading.

Espanylo 1 - 3 Real Madrid

Real Madrid is a team that seems to be put there just to prove everything I think about football is wrong. They seem to arrive and perform for only 10-20 minutes a match, 30 if we're being generous, and leave with the win.

I don't associate Real Madrid with many tactical advantages or type of control that comes from a club winning the double last season. It's a club that seems to just have the right players to keep it afloat and then rely on chaos in the last 10-20 minutes to get the result.

Should such a style work? In my opinion, no. Is it working? Yes. So, I guess some things are just out of my reach of understanding or just illogical or can be attributed to luck.

Question of the Day

Do you think Real Madrid's results reflect their performance fairly this season? Let me know in the comment section below.
