First Impressions: Premier League's Sunday Games

Mulan

Greetings

After re-watching the English Premier League's games, I wrote this post sharing my first impression of each game.

West Ham United 0 - 2 Brighton

It doesn't look like West Ham are in a good place. If it wasn't for the odd collapse of Manchester United in the first two games and Liverpool's horrible form then I believe West Ham's situation at the bottom of the league would have been the main focus.

Rewatching this game, I can't help but feel West Ham's results are a bit deceiving. Their first against Manchester City was a loss and they were dominated but this is Manchester City with both Kevin De Bruyne and Erling Haaland on their day.

Their match against Nottingham Forest was actually one where they dominated and were the bigger threat throughout the match but were unlucky to concede and lose. Their match against Brighton was almost like two teams of the same level facing each other with the only exception being Brighton scoring. So, I think it's just a matter of time before West Ham get out of the relegation zone.

Brighton on the other hand look like quite the sharp team even though they're to cost me my place in @blanchy's Last Man Standing. Losing Marc Cucurella didn't phase them much, not that they were title contenders with him. The team looks stable and solid, resulting from a well-organized sports project.

Leeds United 3 - 0 Chelsea

Tuchel went after the match and said that they played better and I.......... agree.

It's peculiar calling the team that lost 3 - 0 the better team. Chelsea attacked, and looked more in control but they still had no goal scorer on the team sheet which is a problem that they need to solve fast because controlling the pitch and wasting more chances gives all the stats to show you as the better team except it is still missing the one that matters.

Chelsea of course had their refereeing problem the game before against Spurs which is the topic of my next series. But, Chelsea needs to sign a goal scorer because how Arsenal improved just by having goal scorers.

This game absolutely screwed over @hivefpl players, much like the next one.

Newcastlte 3 - 3 Manchester City

Was it someone's birthday or what? It was a goal fest at the St. James' Park stadium.

Rewatching this match kind of ruined the aura I had of how good Newcastle actually were. Don't get me wrong, Newcastle were amazing but upon rewatching it didn't come off that they were as much in control of the match as it looked at first.

Pep Guardiola's mistake against Newcastle is a very odd one by having Bernardo Silva as the right-winger. I know he originally started playing there and I am not going to talk too badly about Manchester City's man of the match and one of this week's stars but having him at the right-wing left Walker without much back as he had to deal with Allan Saint-Maximin alone which was the biggest source of threat in that area.

Yes, the match ended 3 - 3 and yes, Bernardo Silva played a big role in the comeback but I still stand behind the opinion stating that he shouldn't have played there during this game and he should have been subbed out as soon as possible. Which reminds me, Pep realizes he has a bench of players next to him, right?

In Conclusion

In the end, it was a very fun Sunday for anyone watching the Premier League games. Manchester City's draw doesn't seem to be that scary with Liverpool capitalizing on it. Chelsea's hiccup doesn't seem that scary either but it does make it clear their need for a striker as Haverts doesn't seem to be the guy.
