A Visit to a Remote Mountain and a Popular Dam

My friend and I climbed Mt. Lagyo last May 17, 2019. That was my 42nd birthday.

Mt. Lagyo is one of the mountains that you can hike in Montalban, Rodriguez, Rizal. Its height was 396 meters above sea level. Compared to other mountains I climbed before, this mountain is not so difficult to hike. The trail is long but smooth. After 2 hours of walking, we finally reached the summit.

As you can see in this video, Mt. Lagyo is almost the same as Mt. Pamitinan for its rocky-lime stone. The most exciting part for me in climbing the mountain is when I reach the peak and witness the rising of the sun. As its ray touches our skin and witness other living things around us, their beauty gives me more than enough consolation for all my sweat and the difficulty that I experienced coming to this mountain. Nature is indeed beautiful and majestic! This is one of the reasons why I love mountain climbing!

As for the derivation of the name of the mountain, most people here are also clueless. All I can do is make a wild guess. Mr. Google is a reliable assistant when it comes to this task. I find at least two possible meanings of the mountain’s name. One is “soul” and the other is “remote”. Lagyo is actually a Cebuano word that means “far away”.

After reaching the summit, we stayed for about one and a half hours enjoying the scenery. After that, we went down to a nearby dam, the famous Wawa Dam. We enjoyed the water and took pictures and videos. We rented a cottage and there we rested for two hours before we returned home.
