Liverpool vs Arsenal review: It looks bad but it could have been worse

Well, I'm not going to sugarcoat it, that was a horrible performance from the team. Other than the fact that we were second best in virtually everything on the pitch, we were also giving away possession carelessly and making silly errors that a serious team shouldn't be making.

Yeah, we grabbed a goal against the run of play but to be totally honest, we barely deserved it and even when we scored, I felt uneasiness like it was going to bite us in the ass. We never looked like we had any control of the game and as expected, our lead from Lacazette was cut short 4 minutes later by Sadio Mane.

Prior to scoring the opener, we were being bullied in every aspect of the field, and nothing changed afterwards. There was zero impetus, drive and most notably, zero delivery to our attackers. All they had to go on were long hopeful balls from the back line that hardly amount to anything tangible.

There's no denying the fact that Liverpool are absolutely better than us. I mean, you could see on the pitch that there is quite a gap between us and them but sometimes, I feel like we made poor decisions that made it easier for them.

For example, the first goal could have been avoided if Maitland-Niles stopped that cross from TAA, and I know it is unfair to single out a player but he really should have done better. Still sticking with Niles, he gave away possession cheaply on numerous occasions that invited more pressure on our already saturated backline.

In a game like this when chances are few and far, you have no choice than to be clinical, and sadly, we were the exact opposite of that. It is unfair to slag off the scorer of the opening goal but I'm pretty sure he'd be giving himself stern words today. Lacazette had two brilliant chances presented to him on a platter and seriously, on a day like this, you have to be scoring those.

Other than the odd mistake here and there, and our abject lack of creativity in front, we weren't "so bad". It isn't a good look to say we weren't bad after getting floored 3-1, but let's face it, it would have been far worse. Liverpool were constantly probing and on a different day with some luck, they would have easily put 6 past Leno.

Now we regroup, lick our wounds and start all over again. We're still in the process of rebuilding, so there will be hiccups along the way. Every L we take should be a Lesson, and today, the L was Liverpool. Our next match is against Sheffield United at the emirates and we have to make that one count. Until we meet again, up the Arsenal

When Laca missed that second sitter I knew it was tickets, we held them back as best we could I would have liked to see the Cebellos and Pepe subs a bit earlier

Jusy shows we need additional squad depth too

Glad to get that one out the way early in the season! But the fact we kept ourselves in the game until 87 minutes when they got the 3rd should give some encouragement. Liverpool were the far better side, we couldn't deal with the press but you know, we nabbed the charity shield off them so we'll let them have the 3 points 😜
