New Approach in My Habit Formation Journey

(Edited)

I had a busy week, so didn’t really have time to write about my new approach to creating habits. Since I failed miserably in my first attempt to form more than 3 simultaneous habits.

But the fact that I kept on going with my original 10k daily steps habit (when I was injury free) gives me hope that I actually can form more habits. I just need to reevaluate my approach.

From now on I will have structure on when to add new habits: I will add 2nd habit after 1 successful week of completing 1st habit every day. I will add the 3rd habit to the list after 2 weeks of success with the first 2 habits. The 4th after 3 weeks of success with the first 3 habits. And so on. One extra habit means plus one extra week of success with the previous set of habits.
Oh, and I will let myself to fail once a month (for every active habit). And "unused" fails will be carried over to the future months :)

If there is anyone reading these posts besides me, you would’ve noticed that my 2nd habit starting from Monday was Water and Sun.

Since I had serious trouble finishing my last meal before 8pm I decided to change things up a bit and if I can't do evenings right I can at least try to start the day right (that might be even more important). Before I started this habit, usually the 1st thing in my mouth in the morning would’ve been coffee and something sweet. And that is not ideal. So from now on I will be drinking 2 cups of water before I have anything else. And in between those 2 cups I will take a short walk outside (or just spend some time outside). The min amount that I set is 15 min of time outside in the first hour from when I wake up.

A few weeks ago I was listening to a podcast about health and in it I heard an interesting idea. If you want to improve your sleep, one of the easiest and best ways to do that is to spend some time outside first thing in the morning since that starts your Circadian rhythm.

So 2 cups of water and 15 min outside first thing in the morning seemed like a very doable and great choice for my 2nd habit! And I’ve done great with it so far (6 day streak today).
