Weekend Engagement - When I grow up I want to be tall

(Edited)

Well, this is going to be the first time I participate in the #weekend-engagement by @galenkp. I found one of the topics really interesting and by reading the title you might already get it which one I have chosen.

Correct, the one for the Mens and what Body part I would wish to be bigger than it is now. No, it´s not what you think, that part is huuuge. :)

Its actually my whole body, not the legs, or muscles or my head. Would look pretty stupid if only these parts would be bigger. I´m 40 years old, 170cm and roughly 65kg...so yeah, its my whole body I still wish to be a little bit taller. I mean look at me next to that African Elephant, I´m a dwarf.

Jokes aside. It took me quite a long time to accept that I´m small. It was programmed from the beginning as I was always one of the smallest. It has many advantages being small, for me it was always easy to shop clothes as everything was always available in my size. Sports like, skateboarding and snowboarding was always a bit easier for me than for others. Not to mention being in cars, trains, planes...easy for me.

But there are downsides and until today I would wish that I would be just a few inches taller.
The biggest downside is definitely not being noticed. I´ve got a friend who is 1,95cm, just below 100kg, bald head, muscles, beard...what do you thing who gets the attention when we both together enter a room? Him, always. People look at me like I´m his son and he is younger than me :)

In privat life I learned relatively quick to live with it, although even with 40 years I sometimes get a stupid comment. In my work life this was definitely a huge hurdle and I always struggled. It was not like that you don´t get a job because you´re a few inches short but in modern work life if you want to climb the career ladder you´re 100% better positioned if you look like my friend I mentioned above.

When I was working in an office, I sometimes had to travel for meetings, I hated that part. It was always the same, go out for dinner with people who think their position makes them somehow a better human and these were exactly the people who had the talent to simply ignore people like me, although I had a similar position. Furthermore, do you know how stupid it looks when someone like me is wearing a suit? Let me tell you like this...it looks cute but thats not what you want to look like on such events. I bet almost anyone of you reading this knows these people.

I had to show my ID to get into the club until I was in my early 30s. I once had to show my ID when I wanted to play Lotto at a small shop. At this time I was around 28 years. Crazy right?

The most annoying thing about that is that you can´t change it. You want muscles? go to the gym. You want longer hairs? Let them grow. You want to be taller? Well, maybe buy some high heels...there is no healthy solution to it so you have to deal with it.

Anyway, its half-time. I lived 40 years like that and I will most likely survive another 40 years being a little too small. Maybe I should really go into the cellar of my Mums house, get out that sweater I was talking about with @galenkp. That one that I have bought when I was 14 years old and wear it with pride. :)

Oh and I found out a way to look bigger. Simply take selfies of your upper body were no one sees your actual height.

Have a great weekend everyone and don´t let the big ones tease you.

Hahaha, tall people and their motives. Sir, please, you're tall. Be proud of yourself. Such stature makes you look younger than your age. Move on. Though, it yields insults. But, I don't care

Thanks for your words. Well, the fact that I look younger starts to feel good now with 40. Luckily I was never really insulted for that, only stupid comments that never really hurt me.

Stupid comments should be ignored. Thanks for displaying such mindset. Am proud of you

Have you tried bulking up through lifting? It really looks different when you are a skinny 170 cm / 65 kg or if you are a muscular 170 cm / 80 kg. For some reason, a lot of my friends are very tall and even though I´m not exactly super short with 177 cm, I often felt tiny next to them. Probably also because of this, I started to work out. Firstly, it was mostly just calisthenics that made me look pretty shredded but still visually small. For the past couple of years though, I have been into pure lifting and the gains are really impressive. Almost 90 kg now, stronger than ever and it feels really different. Sure, not all of that mass is muscle unfortunately but I still feel much better like this than when I was skinny :)

Yes I did but I´m the epitome of a hard gainer. Especially in times like now were I do surf a lot its almost impossible to put on weight. I can eat whatever I want, can eat cake at night, doesn´t do anything to me. I gained a little here in Portugal, maybe 2kg. My best was around 75kg in my early 20s but I only reached that with creatine (will try to find a photo) and as soon as I stopped it went down again. When the time is right, probably Australia, I will try to go to the gym again and lift some weights.

I know exactly what you mean, I was the same until like 20. No matter how much and what I was eating, I was still skinny. But then it started to change... Yeah, try lifting again, the body reacts differently with age, I think with regular lifting sessions, you will be able to put on some mass and look bigger :) Fingers crossed!

This feeling is relatable. I go to places and everyone thinks I'm a lost child looking for her parents. scientists say you can't gain height after a certain age and I'm definitely working towards proving them wrong😪😅

haha yes thats how I feel sometimes as well. But as long as we can laugh about it everything is fine.

That's just it. There are certain things we shouldn't think about too much else we won't progress... We just have to laugh and move on🤧✨

Yeah this is something you can't change really. Unless you start using stilts, conceal them under baggy pants, but then you would probably be that guy with the really long legs.
Best to just be grateful for what you got and like you said, take those selfies of your upper half only lol.
Great response @betterthanhome xxx

nah you can´t but to be honest I´ve never ever spent a second thinking about doing something stupid just to be taller. There is people getting their bones broken and put together just to be taller.

Thanks, it was meant to be more of a funny post.

Bro, get that bloody sweater out! You'll be happy you did, even if it's a bit small.

Thanks for getting involved this week. I think I'd like to be a little taller also. I'm just under 180cm (slightly under 6 foot tall) and I think 185cm would be a better height. Still, I'm happy how I am, can't change it anyway.

Now, go find that sweater and wear it! Too small? Who cares! 😉

haha, next time I´m home I will get it out of the cellar, I swear! :)

1,85 sounds like a perfect size. When I´m next to my Mum I feel like a giant, shes 72 and about 1,55 now :)

We all shrink with age, it's just how it is, so maybe you'll fit that sweater perfectly someday?

We have almost the same height my friend, my height is about 168 cm and you are 170 cm, you want to have a taller body that is a very good idea, because actually I also want to have a taller body 😁, good luck
