Remembering The Boxing 🥊 Giant| José Napoles
Hello guys, today I will be talking about this Boxing giant named José Ángel Napoles who was considered by many boxing fans as the giant of Boxing, to be honest I really do not most of his highlights but the few I have watched convinced me to know more about him, dude was also a beast, He was born in Santiago de Cuba, on April 1940 and he is nicknamed "Mantequilla", Naples, Initially he was born in Cuba but represented Mexico in all levels, He would have represented his country of birth but back then professional boxing was banned in that country, so José Napoles, who already had about eight professional fights in his history, decided to go to Mexico.
He got his first shot at a world title on April 18, 1969, against Curtis Cokes, WBA and WBC welterweight champion, at the Forum in Inglewood, California, USA. After 13 rounds, Naples won the world championships by technical knockout. The rematch was awarded to the American on June 29, in Mexico City, but again he was dominated by Naples and could not continue the fight, once the tenth round was over, it was another TKO in favor of Mantequilla.

In December 1970, Naples lost the titles to Billy Backus in his fourth defense, via a fourth round TKO, due to a severe injury to the upper arch of the eye. But like the greats, he would come back stronger for their rematch match, on June 4, 1971, ending with a victory in his favor by TKO in round 8, following a second fall of Backus to the canvas.
His last professional fight was against John H. Stracey, who stripped him of his title on December 6 in the Monumental Plaza de toros México. Retired with a record of [77 (54KO) -7-0] in 1984, Naples was inducted into the Boxing Hall of Fame, and in 1990 the International Boxing Hall of Fame. The television channel HBO considers him "the best welterweight boxer since Sugar Ray Robinson, and ESPN ranks him in the 32nd position of the 50 best boxers in history. The Ring magazine also includes him among the 100 best fighters like him. number 73.
He passed away on August 6, 2019, in Mexico City as reported by the World Boxing Council, through its president Mauricio Sulaimán, after not recovering from his health problems.
He will forever be remembered
