So Spurs have announced the appointment of Ange Posttecoglou today to mixed reviews from Spurs fans. I have to say I am excited by the appointment because of a number of reasons. Us Irish always have one eye open on the Scottish League especially Celtic and when big Ange arrived in Parkhead , nobody had a clue who he was at first so the same reservations were held by the people at Celtic. But he got them playing really good football and I watched them play a couple of games in Europe where they were really good and just fell a bit short in getting a couple of wins in the Champions League. But it is the Scottish League you say? That doesn't matter , the way the team was set up and the way they attacked was absolutely fantastic and I was hoping that Ange was going to be in the mix for the Spurs job from the start. I was excited when he emerged as the top candidate.

This is a step up for Ange but for the last 4 years Tottenham had hired Mourinho and Conte who saw Spurs as a step down. They looked to be too big for the club which ended up being costly. With Ange as like with Pochettino he will be thankful he got this job. When you think about the top 8 in the Premiership there is not many vacancies so this is the best job he could get. He also inherits Spurs at its lowest point in the last 10 years so he can only do better. The football is tribe at the moment so he can change this. If we look at City and Liverpool. They have two managers that are doubtful to leave in the next 3 years. Newcastle are happy with Howe. United are happy with Ten Haag. Arsenal are happy with Arteta so Spurs is the best job anyone manager can hope for when joining the Premier League. A little known fact is that Ange turned down Brighton after they sacked Potter so had to call their back up Di Zerbi instead.

Interesting thing about Ange as well is that he doesn't really mind who his backroom team are. He is bring a couple from Celtic but they are from Celtic. Unlike Conte and Mourinho he didn't bring an entourage of coaches to the Lane. He will bring some and keep others. It will be interesting to see what happens Ryan Mason under him.

Ange has tactics that are not compromise. I have been watching videos the whole weekend about Ange and I like the sound of what he does. He also salutes the dinner ladies on the way in and is like a father figure around the club which I quite like the sound of as well. Check him out here telling a player not to pass it back. I have a feeling Hojbjerg will be in for it this year.

Spurs Twitter is a cesspit pool of hatred and arguments at the best of time so the news has not gone down well with a number of supporters but I did the research and I am quite happy with the appointment. What do they want? Another manager who thinks that they are bigger than the club. Apparently when they spoke to Nagelsmann around the role he didn't even know who any of the players were. Thanks but goodbye.

So who is Ange Postecuglou?

Well Ange was born near Athens in 1965 so he is 57. He emmigrated to Austrailia in 1970 after his father lost his business in a coup. He grew up around football and played for South Melbourne as a defender with 4 caps for the Austrailian national team. He became the manager of South Melbourne in 1996 winning the National League in 1999.He won more leagues and cups with Brisbane and became the Austrailian National coach. He won the Asian Cup in 2015 and went to the world cup with Austrailia in 2014.He then went to Japan and won the J League with Yokohama F. Marinos in 2019 and from there he went to Celtic where he just won the treble. So tell me this guy is not a winner. So below is his list of honours:

Oh wait , this is not right. That was Julian Nagelsmann. Here's Ange's :

You would argue that the German League is much better quality than the Japanese / Scottish / Austrailian Leagues but he is a winner no doubt.

The Elephant in the Room

Madrid are sniffing around Kane for £80 million and have said goodbye to Karim Benzema and Hazard off their payroll which leaves space to bring in the worlds best striker over the last number of years. Levy would want to be mad not to take £100 million to rebuild the Spurs squad and give Ange a war chest. Personally if Harry wants to go now then maybe it is for the best that he does go. We have got the best years out of Harry. He scored 30 goals but he wouldn't be pressing as much as he did back in the day. This is not a dig but with 1 year left on his contract it is time to cash in or expect another 30 goals this season from him. The number 9 to replace Kane was signed last year and his name is Richarlison. I still think the Brazilian has a career at Tottenham and Kane leaving might make him the big dog like he was at the world cup. It's going to be an interesting summer.

Spurs look to offload Loris , Peresic , Sessengnon and as many as 7 players this year as they need a clearout. From the Kane money I would bolster the defence as the attack is OK. The midfield is quality and with Udogee on his way and Porro settling it looks like the midfield is sorted. A number ten is needed as well so hopefully we will be in the pot for James Maddison although Newcastle are said to be in for him. Spurs are no way near as bad as their own fans make out. With Bentancur back in Autumn. We have Los Celso , Ndombele, Winks , Bissouma still on our books then big Ange has a wealth of talent to choose from. As well as that big Ange purchased a couple of J League players for Celtic and they performed amazingly over the season. He can tap into this market for cheap. I never believe in buying players for mad money like Ndombele for £50 million or even Richarlison for £50 million. The future gems can be purchased for under £5 million in some of these lesser leagues. Dele Ali being a prime example was purchased for £9 million.
Ange has the whole summer to look at his players and size up who he will keep or get rid of . We have a few Rolls Royce players at Tottenham so if Ange can get a tune out of them then it will be great to watch. They say Conte was cold and unapproachable. Ange is different. He will chat to you and make you feel loved they reckon and this is just what the Spurs players need. An arm around them. I look forward to the year ahead and the summer. We have to back the new manager now. I think he will fit in quite well. Tour of Australia pending.
So welcome to Tottenham Ange Postecoglou. Strap yourself in and enjoy the ride.

At least we have appointed a coach to the Head Coach role at Spurs. Still lots of problems for him and the club to overcome but looking forward to actually watching Spurs play again!
