Excellent Drive To Survive Series Has Really Propelled Formula One to The Main Stream

I have just finished the latest season of Drive to Survive and I have to say it is one of the best documentaries I have ever watched. Anyone who watches it gets interested into Formula One after it. There has already been 4 seasons of Drive to Survive that makes a series out of the Formula One season and Netflix were only just too delighted when drama by the bucketloads happened in this series. People were rubbing their knees waiting for this one. Going behind the scenes all access in Formula One is in demand and Netflix are cleaning up. By they should be. I don't know why anyone didn't think of this in the first place. It is set up for TV. The pit lane is rift with bitching, sniping, back stabbing and thats only between the teams. The teammates are even worse with each other. If one driver is on more money than the other one then this becomes an issue. An issue that can derail the team. When two teammates crash into each other is very funny as it means the whole team is out of the F1 race and some stern words back in headquarters. Also the lower grid positions are always keen to prove their ability and it sometimes leads to them trying too hard.
All these things make great television. The way Netflix produce it is brilliant. They pick around 5 narratives and they go deep into the storyline. The narratives this year were

1. Lewis Versus Max

Well we all know this was the major drama this year because there were a couple of major incidents between the two. This is some rivalry. And it was excellent the way it unravelled. Right until the end.

2. Toto versus Max

The Mercedes and Red Bull team principals are so different that they are alike. Toto Wolff is a more reserved character and Max Horner likes to stir the pot. Again excellent viewing watching these two guys run their teams.

3. Daniel Ricardo losing his mojo.

Daniel is a popular Aussie whose mentality is very strong but this year he starts really badly and he just doesn't have any pace. The series follows him through his turbulent start in the McClaren while his team mate Landon Norris is stealing the show but also rubbing Daniel's nose in it a bit. Great watch here.

4. New rookie driver Yuki Tsunoda for Alphatauri is a character and needs Babysitting.

This guy is hilarious. He looks around 12 and he has no filter. Alphatauri who are Red Bulls, sister team move the little Japanese bullet to Italy in a bid to improve his lifestyle. It's a fun watch.

5. Haas's driver Dmitry Mazepin isn't a very good Driver.

The main sponsor is a Russian Oligarch and demands his son is on the team. They even paint the Haas in Russian colours. The producers look into how Guenther Steiner deals with this. As usual from season one , Guenther is a popular figure in the Netlix series.

6. William's George Russell and his Ambition to Race For Mercedes.

This looks into the relationship between Mercedes current number two Bottas and the new up and coming star George Russell.

As usual I binged watched the entire series in 3 nights. You just cannot press stop on this one. It has everything plus we all love to watch how the other half live to. It is clear to say that Formula One drivers have it all.

Used to watch it and just can't anymore as so much is staged. I love the sport but don't like the fake stuff and unfortunately loads of this series is pure crap and made up for viewing.

well the racing itself cannot be faked and that was great. I liked the narratives myself. Made for great viewing.

I really like the series. The only problem is truly that Netflix is trying to turn things in the favor of the tension. I think last season was awesome so Netflix did not have to do too much there but Season 3 was very funny to watch, as they made it look like Carlos and Lando started hating each other! :D

Yeah I do think they push the boat out here. I don't think Lando and Daniel are that unfriendly with each other but I quite like the bitching. 😀

Oh wow I need to try and convince the misses to watch this. She hates sports but I've got a chance if it's "staged" drama!!!

oh wow, I'm intrigued now. We're smashing a show called Top Boy, big in England and I presume so in Ireland too?

Unfortunately, I am not a car racing fan so, I rarely watch related documentaries nor the sport. Nonetheless, this is insightful.
