Running Tracks That Get You Through That Final Push

avatar

I have been running for years and I can't go without my running playlists . I have a dance playlist that is high temp. I also have an alternative run playlist that's a lower tempo but still fast beats. The rap playlist is the last one. Slower again but very good to run to. I have deleted songs over the years that just don't match my stride or ones that I just grew sick of. There are a couple of songs that really gets me through the hard kilometers and I strategically time them at the end of the playlist so I can make the final push for home or if I am in the GYM, the sacred 5km target. B.O.B by Outkast has to be my all time favourite running tune because the beat is high tempo. I remember Wayne Rooney bursting on the scene as one of the world's best footballers and he said he always listened to B.O.B before a big match and he would then have the song playing in his head over and over when he was playing. I find that exactly the same when I run. The good thing about B.O.B or Bombs Over Baghdad is that it can be put in any playlist. It's just a million miles an hour and at the end it switches to this sort of bridge that really keeps you to your tempo.

I have a few tracks from Swedish House Mafia in my dance playlist also. One (Your Name) and Miami to Ibiza. Again big bass, fast beat to keep the energy up. Street Dancer by Avicii is another one that really gets me past the finish line and Calvin Harris always has a new hit that I will keep on for the summer until it gets played out.

Once I have the run done , I move onto the rowing machine and maybe switch to the rap playlist where I bask older classics like "It was a good Day" by Ice Cube as the hard part in my mind is done. I am into Anderson Paak lately after seeing his live performance on tiny desk. The beat he keeps shows his immense talent. Not all rappers should be painted with the same brush. This guy has more talent in his little finger than most famous rappers today. He raps and plays jazz drum at the same time which is very hard. Watch below. 69 million views and counting. Great beat for rowing by the way.

I have started getting into Khruangbin lately as people say their drummer is the best drummer in the world for holding the beat. I put on these guys when I am running 10km -15km so I can hold my tempo during long distances. The bassist isn't bad either😉. No lyrics. Just a tight close knit band that like to a melody. It's just chill.

And finally lets not forget. My guilty pleasure. Down Under by Men at Work.

Anyway I find the Nike, Adidas and all those running playlists terrible for some reason so I have yet to find a decent one. So my question is what do you run to? Comment below. I will throw a couple of SBI your way if they are any good. Celine Dion and Gareth Brooks will be downvoted.
