A Pair of Wins for The D!

It was a big night for the city of Detroit on Thursday. Loyal fans have a lot to be excited about this morning as we celebrate a pair of wins from both the Tigers and the Lions. The biggest spotlight was probably on the football game that took place last night, but I think we should also give props to our boys of summer who came away with a 10 to 3 win against those dang Yankees.

At 64 and 76 on the season, it is safe to say there hasn't been a lot to be excited about with the Tigers this year, but the fact is, they are only 3 games away from second place in the AL Central this year.

With a series starting against the White Sox today, they could put some decent distance between themselves in third place and Chicago in fourth place.

I'd love to see them gain some ground on Cleveland. I expect they won't make it to the post season though, so I will celebrate the wins where I can. Like the Lions, I think they are building something good in Detroit and I wouldn't be surprised if we have a winning record next year and maybe even a spot at the top of the division.

As I said earlier, the biggest spotlight last night was on Missouri and the game between the defending Super Bowl Champion Chiefs and the Lions. If you remember, the Lions had some good momentum at the end of a heart breaking season last year.

They fell just short of making it to the playoffs and they were able to spoil Green Bays chances of making it there. All it would have taken was a Seattle loss in the last game of the year and they would have been in.

Clearly, they didn't let that get them down and they are ready to continue the push this season for the playoffs.

The Lions went into Arrowhead Stadium the clear underdogs last night (I mean they are the Lions right?), and they came away with a 21 to 20 win over Kansas City.

I've gotta give props to the Lions defense for the two drives where they held KC to field goals. Those were the difference in the game. If either of those drives had ended in a touchdown, we would be having a totally different conversation this morning.

It was pretty interesting reading my Facebook feed this morning. Lot's of excitement and lot's of witty posts. My brother in law pointed out that the Lions currently have the best record in the NFL. Sure, they have only played one game, but it's not a lie!

My other brother in law simply posted "Honolulu Blue".

If you know, you know!

Having lived in Michigan all my life, I am a tried and true die hard Lions fan. I wouldn't be shocked if we see a lot of bandwagon jumpers this year though. When you see that person who has probably never been to Detroit or Michigan for that matter wearing a Lions jersey, just remember, it's been a long time coming!
