A split weekend and a #beersaturday

This weekend was definitely an odd one. It's that time of year in Michigan when you never quite know what you are going to get for the weather when you wake up in the morning. That same duplicity spilled over in to much of the baseball and softball that took place over the weekend.

We entered the weekend with temps hitting the 80 degree mark and people out enjoying the warm and sunny weather. You would think it was summer the way people were acting and dressing. I even did a quick run with the mower on some of the higher spots in my yard.

Took out my patio furniture, stored away the Christmas decorations and our snow blower, and grilled a nice tasty pork steak on the grill for dinner Saturday night.

I forgot to take a picture before I cut into it, but believe me when I tell you, it was delicious! I think pork steak is one of those cuts of meat that is severely underrated. You just don't hear people talk about them that much, but a good pork steak is so amazing and flavorful!

Anyway, my niece was in action on Friday with her college team. Tiffin had a double header against Ursuline college and they came away with the victory in both games. I know the last time the team got a sweep the coach took them out for ice cream. I'm not sure that was the case this past weekend.

Meanwhile my other niece had a high school varsity game that was a rough one for them. I think they got run ruled, but I am not sure. @mrsbozz and I were at a work event, so we didn't get to stream that game like we usually do.

Meanwhile, the Tigers needed 11 innings to do it, but they pulled off a win against the Giants 7 to 5. Well done Tigers!

Like Friday for the Tigers, Saturday was a day of extra innings. The Tigers once again needed 11 innings to beat the Giants 7 to 6. Meanwhile, the Tiffin dragons fell Cedarville in both of their games, but one of them went to extra innings. It was a silly mistake in the 9th inning that cost them the first game losing 4 to 3.

The second game they also lost 4 to 1. Like I said in the title, it was a split weekend for them. I am encouraged that they seem to be coming together more as a team.

I also mentioned something about #beersaturday sponsored by @detlev right? On Saturday after we got the softball games watched and the chores all done, @mrsbozz and I sat out on the deck and enjoyed the nice summer-like weather we were getting.

She cracked open this Soft Parade Fruit Ale by Short's Brewing Company and after taking a sip decided it was a hard pass for her. In fact, she made a point of saying "if you write a post about this make sure you say that I didn't taste any of the things it said I was supposed to taste".

So, no hints of blueberry, strawberry, raspberry, or blackberry for her. I did taste some of those, but honestly, I was just so relaxed and thirsty that I chugged the thing and didn't notice many of the flavors. I think her real issue with it was the fact that it was a bit hoppier than she is used to when it comes to beers.

I could tasted a distinct bitterness in this that I know she probably didn't care for. It reminded me of an IPA or something similar.

Try to ignore my dirty thumbnail in the photo above. Short's does make a regular Soft Parade, but I can't say as though I have ever tried it before. I don't know if it is as bitter as this was.

Short's is hands down one of the best breweries in Michigan, so even if you try this and don't like it, don't give up on them. I guarantee they have something you will like.

As I said, it was a split weekend. Where Friday and Saturday gave us bright, warm, and sunny days, Sunday started the same, but quickly turned on us. By evening it was cloudy and the temps were heading towards 40 degrees.

The Tigers game against San Francisco got postponed, and everyone was closing up their houses for what is hopefully this last push that winter is going to make before spring fully arrives.

Detroit starts a series against Cleveland tonight and my niece has a high school game unless they end up pushing it due to the weather. My brother in law wasn't really hopeful given how cold it is supposed to be down in Ohio. Who knows though.

You better believe I'll be streaming it and writing a post about it tomorrow if they do play!
