Another year, another championship

The College Softball World Series reached it's conclusion last night with Oklahoma beating Florida State 3 to 1 to win the series in a quick two games. It was scheduled to go to three if necessary, but it was not needed.

Oklahoma has just been a powerhouse the past couple of years. I think they have something like a 53 game win streak going on. That is just nuts. There are a lot of people that hate them for that, but can you really complain? It's almost like they just can't help doing that well.

Some of the plays in the last two games were pretty amazing. I do have to point out a catch by Florida State player Mudge in the outfield that kept the first game going at least one extra inning. It was an amazing catch.

I tried to find it on YouTube to share with you, but I wasn't able to find it as a stand alone shot. There are several highlight reels you can check out and I guarantee it will be in there.

Meanwhile, my nieces are both back in action this weekend. I am actually watching my younger niece play right now. With school being out for most kids, they have some pretty early start times on Friday's during the summer.

She actually has three pool play games back to back to back this morning. You better believe I will be watching all of them.

Then, they are back in action tomorrow at 11:30 AM.

My oldest niece is back together with some of her friends on a team that they threw together just to play some games this summer and stay fresh.

I asked my brother in law if that was okay. My thinking is, if you are a college athlete, the university wouldn't want you doing anything in the off season to risk injury and keeping you from playing. He said they actually prefer ladies to play in the summer because it keeps them fresh.

I guess that makes sense now that I think about it.

He is stepping back in to the coaching role after a year off, so it should be interesting to see how they do. Most of these girls have been playing softball half of their lives and many of them are playing at the university level, so I don't know how much coaching they are really going to need.

Play for her team starts tonight at 4:45 PM and they have three games with the last one starting at 8:15 PM. It's going to be a long night for her.

Unfortunately, since my brother in law is coaching, he won't be able to keep score in Game Changer. That means there is a good chance we won't be able to follow along with my older nieces games unless they find someone to do the score.

I hope they do because I really want to follow how she is doing.

Check back on Monday when I give you all the updates from the tournament this weekend. I'm going to have to find something else to follow now that college softball is over. Anyone here ever heard of Spikeball?
