Batting 1000!

It feels a bit like there has been a game every night this week for my niece. I guess since the weather has been nice they are trying to fit as many in as possible before the end of the season. Last night was a pretty exciting match up between my nieces high school team and another team in the area.

Last time these two teams faced off, the final score was 20 to 17 in favor of the other team. That should give you an idea of how powerful the offenses are on each of these teams, as well as how dangerous it can be to slack off once you have a lead!

Luckily, that didn't happen last night and my nieces team came away with the win. I think by the time everything was said said and done, their pitcher had thrown something like 150 pitches. Compare that to the MLB. You would never seen a baseball player with 150 pitches in a game! They say the motion is less stressful on your arm and joints in softball. I don't know if that is the case, but maybe that is why they can get away with it.

Another cool stat for this game is that by the end of the night, my niece had a batting average (for this game) of 1.000. That's right, she went 4 for 4 and she even hit a home run. The same way it happened before, I just had a feeling she was going to do something special in that specific at bat.

There was a runner on second and I told @mrsbozz, she's going to hit a home run. Sure enough, we watched the ball sail over the fence!

If you have ever heard the phrase "batting 1000" and didn't know where it came from, this is where. If she had went 3 for 4, her average for this game would have been .750. 2 for 4 .500, 1 for 4, .250, and obviously 0 for 4. .000.

Based on the way I have seen her playing this year, I have to believe that she has a batting average over .500 for the season. Usually in baseball you are hoping for something like .300 or better. I don't see any way she is that low, she is absolute beast mode!

As I said though, you have to be careful. They were up something like 7 to 0 early in the game and the other team clawed back to come just short of losing 13 to 10. There were still some mistakes in the field, but they held things together for the win. I am happy for them!

Thankfully they get a long weekend break before they are back in action on Monday against their local rival.

Meanwhile, the Tigers fell to the Orioles last night 7 to 4. Sitting at 9 and 15 on the season, things aren't looking too great for them right now. The good news is, they have moved past the White Sox and Kansas City in the AL Central to sit in third place. Minnesota is looking really good early in the season.

It's going to be a chase for the next couple of months!

13-10 is a pretty high scoring game.. 20-17 sounds more like a football score 😆

Yeah, it does. The defense was struggling a bit that one game. 13 to 10 is kind of high, but this is high school still. They are still learning and growing.
