Broncos Riding High

As I mentioned in my post yesterday, it was a bit interesting weekend for my wife and I sports-wise. Friday we rode down to Virginia with her sister and brother in law to watch our nieces Radford University softball team take on the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.

It was an interesting game with UVA clearly being the better team. While both teams are Division I schools, UVA is in the ACC which is considered a power conference. Just as there is a significant boost in talent from Division II schools to Division I, there is also a gab within Division I from general conferences and the power conferences. That doesn't mean there aren't some bad teams in power conferences, but it's more the exception than the norm. Simply due to status, and recruiting dollars with the bigger schools.

It was pretty clear UVA wanted to test their players in certain scenarios, so they were allowing Radford to have runners on different bases to start the inning. This allowed Radford to score a respectable 9 runs in the game, but it was still two runs too short and UVA won the ten inning game 11 to 9.

Either way, it was nice to see our niece play at the next level. She did really well and seems to be settling into her new home and what may be her new position at second base.

On our way home from Liberty University (more on that in the future), we found ourselves listening to a fair amount of NFL football on the radio.

The Bengals took care of the Steelers on Thursday night 33 to 31 in a pretty exciting game. Then on Sunday in England the Los Angeles Rams beat the Jaguars 35 to 7 in what sounded to be a pretty abysmal game for Lawrence the Jags QB. You will have to wait for @fullcoverbetting to post more about that. That lucky duck was actually at the game!

Carolina added insult to injury on the Jets beating them 13 to 6, Philly beat Minnesota 28 to 22, and Kansas City blanked the Raiders 31 to 0. I have written in the past about how I can't understand how in this day and age when kickers can kick field goals over 60 yards teams still manage to score zero points in a game.

I realized this weekend, it's probably because teams are more likely to "go for it" on fourth down than they have been in the past. It seems to be the gutsy thing to do now and more teams are leaning that way than taking the three points. Whether that is good or bad, I can't say.

New England beat Tennessee 31 to 13, the Browns stunned Miami 31 to 6, and Chicago beat the Saints 26 to 14. I almost feel bad for New Orleans.

The Colts continued their stellar run this season beating the Chargers 38 to 24, and in what was probably the most exciting game of the weekend, Denver scored 33 points in the 4th quarter to beat the New York Giants 33 to 32. That has to be an awkward ride home on the New York side of things. On the flip side, Broncos fans were treated to something amazing. The ones that bothered to stay around for the 4th quarter anyway.

The Packers beat Arizona 27 to 23, Dallas hammered their long time rival Washington 44 to 22, and San Francisco had a really good game against Atlanta 20 to 10.

Finally, there were not one but two games on Monday night. First we had the Lions vs. the Buccaneers. This actually should have been a much better game on paper, but the Lions won 24 to 9 in a relatively low scoring game. Detroit QB Goff actually said, we should have beat them by a lot more, but we unfortunately didn't have enough offense, so hats off to our defense for doing their job.

I was happy to see the win in what I thought could be a bubble game for the Lions.

The second game saw Seattle taking down Houston 27 to 19.

There you go, that's the NFL for this week. Tomorrow we start week 8 believe it or not!

The rams just ran over the kittens. While the atmosphere was great, the game was a bad one 😔

I'm sorry. I'm a Rams fan unless they are playing the Lions, so I am not too sad about the outcome. I like seeing Stafford do well after all the years he spent getting hammered in Detroit.
