Escape Velocity
@mrsbozz and I are planning an escape this weekend, so I am going to get all of the softball stuff out of the way today. Before I get to that though, I just wanted to point out that the NBA draft is taking place right now if you care about that sort of thing. I'm actually not much of an NBA fan anymore, but I am a fan of the Michigan State Spartans, so I was very curious to see when Jase Richardson would be picked in the draft.
There was a lot of uncertainty at the beginning of the season about whether or not he would stay with the Spartans or declare for the draft. I understand him ultimately making the decision to declare, but it's still pretty sad because even with just one year under his belt, he was a really great Spartan.
As the 25th pick in the first round, I hope that Jase enjoys his new home with the Orlando Magic and I hope that he has a great career there.
It's going to be an interesting weekend for my nieces team starting tomorrow. They somehow managed to find themselves in a tournament where there are only five teams in their division. Apparently, there is another tournament happening just about 45 minutes away from this one and the majority of teams decided to play in that one.
The good news is, they likely will be facing some teams they haven't played before in the tournament this weekend. Whether that is a good thing or a bad thing remains to be seen. It's possible the strength of competition will be reduced with most of the other teams choosing to play in the national tournament, but we will see.
They have two games on Friday and two games on Saturday with bracket play likely starting on Sunday as long as the weather cooperates. The good news about so so few teams in the tournament is that the bracket should be pretty short if they do make it there.
Imagine taking a championship in only two games! That would be awesome!
The Friday games start at 9:00 AM with a match up against Indiana Shockwaves 18U team. It's possible they have played this team before, but I am not sure. I really don't feel like digging back to find out. Just trust me, they may have, but possibly not...
Then, at 11:15 AM they have a game against the Indiana Gators 18U team. I wish that Game Changer showed you the record of the two teams, but they don't unless you join to become a member of the other team. Who wants to do that?
That leaves them the rest of the day on Friday to go back home, chill out, and hopefully get ready for their games on Saturday.
Saturday starts again at 9 AM with a face off against Texas Glory/Midwest. I don't know much about the teams, but I know Texas has some good softball players so this could be a tough game for them. Then again, they might roll right over them.
Finally, on Saturday afternoon at 3:45 they have their last pool play game against Mad Apple 18U. I have no clue where this team is from, but based on their name alone, it should be interesting. It's been a while since my niece has tallied a home run on her stats, so I am hoping maybe she can get that taken care of this weekend.
