Football Recap: THE LIONS WIN!

Although Michigan State didn't play this weekend, there was still some excitement. Most specifically in the form of the Detroit Lions first win of the season. You read that right, they finally got a win after 10 losses and one tie. In fact, Sunday was one day short of a year that they had last won a football game. How horrible is that?
It wasn't a pretty game. The defense was playing fairly well, but Goff was till just a hot mess in the quarterback position. I honestly don't have much redeeming to say about him. It's not that he is horrible, but he just isn't that good. Not in my opinion anyway.
Sure, most of the losses the Lions have had this season have been fairly close matchups. I think at least three of them if not more were lost by a field goal. I honestly don't know what they need to do at this point to fix things.
I am thinking this win is more of an anomoly than they norm.
From what I heard, the head coach knows they have zero hope this season (statistically that is a done deal), so they figure all they can do now is play spoiler.
Which is what they did on Sunday. The Vikings were just about one win away from making the wild card slot for the playoffs. With this loss to the Lions, they pretty much have no chance now. Sorry to all of my friends from Minnesota.
I was honestly ready to shut the tv off at one point. It was right at the end when they had that turnover that allowed the Vikings to go up. I figured that was it. I am glad I decided to leave the TV on, but man, it shouldn't be that hard. They have some decent talent on the team just as they have for countless years in the past.
Swift was out and he is pretty dynamic. That could have made the difference in how close the game was. Who knows. I think at this point the Lions should just sit Swift for the rest of the season and let him heal so he is ready to go next year. We don't want to lose or mismanage amazing talent like his.
The Rams had a pretty decisive win over Jacksonville which honestly would have been sad if they hadn't. I can't think of any team as bad as the Lions this year except maybe Jacksonville. It is a good win for Stafford and hopefully keeps them on the road to the playoffs.
Actually, given the fact that they are in the same division as the Cardinals who have been on fire this year, their only hope might be a wildcard spot at this point.
There is still a bit of season left, so we will see...

Okay, so that takes us to NCAA football. Alabama beat Georgia and won the SEC championship. You are probably tryiing to figure out what is odd about that. I don't disagree with you, but I do disagree a bit with the fact that there are now two SEC teams in the College Playoff games. I kind of have a problem with that. I am not sure who else should have been there instead, but it kind of feels like Georgia had their shot and they blew it. Cya.
In case you didn't hear, Michigan beat Iowa pretty decisively in the Big 10 Championship game. Ho hum. I don't really like giving Michigan more time than they deserve which is less than a little. Iowa actually kept the game pretty close in the first half, but things just started to unravel in the second half. So Michigan stays at #2 in the nation, but what I really love talking about with Michigan is their record.
12-1.
That's right, one loss. Man, that has to hurt. What an ugly mark on their resume. It could have been a perfect year, but nope, you got that one loss. You weren't good enough to beat my Michigan State Spartans. They handed you that loss and ruined your perfect record. That has to sting. I love it!
I don't really care that Michigan is ranked number 2 in the nation. That's just another feather in our hat. We beat the #2 team in the nation.
Take that Wolverines.
Thanks to the Michigan State win over Michigan and the susequent Michigan win over Iowa, that sends the Spartans to the Peach Bowl against Pissburgh. I am not sad about that. It is one of the more prestegious bowls and kind of what I was hoping for. Depending on which Michigan State team decides to show up, it could be a good game.
As much as I hate the SEC, I hate Michigan just about as much, so I can't really say who I want to see win the Championship. It would be kind of cool if Michigan did, then we could say we beat the best team in the nation. On the other hand, I am kind of cheering for Cincinnati the only remaining undefeated D1 team (as far as I know).
It would be cool to see them wipe the floor with the rest of the field and prove all of the haters and naysayers wrong.
What do you think? Who is going to take it all this year?

Not trying to be mean but i don't pay any attention to Lions games. Did they get to win in front of a home crowd?
No offense taken. There isn't much to get excited about with the Lions over the past couple of decades. We had some standout players, but nothing to brag about as a team. They did win in front a home crowd and they spoiled the season for our rivals the Vikings, so that is good.
