Football Recap: Wrapping things up

As we approach the end of December, things are starting to slow down a bit on the football front. You wouldn't think that would be the case with college bowl season being upon us and the NFL playoffs starting to take shape.

My family fantasy football season is over, you can read about it in the post from my main account. Sure, the college bowl season is starting to heat, up, but I have already seen at least three or four bowl games that have been cancelled and several others that are pretty close.

In case you haven't figured it out yet, things are really starting to shake up in the college bowl world. The omicron variant of Covid has reared it's ugly head and it is wrecking havoc on what is supposed to be one of the most exciting times of the year.

Washington State was supposed to match up against Miami in the Sun Bowl. That was until Miami dropped out due to Covid outbreak on the team. Likewise, Central Michigan University was supposed to face Boise State in the Arizona bowl. That is until Bosie State also dropped out due to Covid reasons.

Now, Central Michigan University will be heading to Texas to play against Washington State in the Sun Bowl.

You keeping all of this straight so far?

The withdrawal of Boise State marks the sixth team to drop out due to Covid reason. It is important to note that there is a huge amount of money on the line for some of these teams.

For example, the Sun Bowl gives each team a national audience and a combined payout of over 4 million dollars. No wonder CMU was more than happy to jump into that slot. They were in a bowl with just a streaming audience and a combined payout of less than $500,000 I think.

I have a feeling we are going to see more teams missing out on their chance to play in a bowl. I just hope one of them isn't Michigan State.

It would be hillarious if Michigan had to forfeit though.

It is also possible you might see some powerhouse teams at a real deficit this year. Between Covid and players choosing not to participate in their bowl game because they are preparing for the NFL draft, it is hard to say what you are going to end up with on the field.

I know that Ohio State has already announced that two or three of their starters are not going to be playing due to their concerns over being injured befor even starting their NFL career.

I get the thinking on their part, but it is kind of a let down for the fans. It has me thinking that bowl season isn't as good as it used to be.

I didn't get a chance to watch the game because I was busy with family stuff, but it appears the Lions found another way to lose a football game. Surprise, surprise. I actually did see the game towards the end and they were able to keep the score fairly close agasint the Falcons. In fact, it could have been a winner for them if the backup QB hadn't thrown an interception right towards the end.

The good news is, the Lions aren't in last place thanks to that tie game they had earlier in the season!

Excuse me while I throw up a little bit here, but the Packers now have the best record in the NFL. Man, I can't stand them. I don't really think they are that great, but somehow they manage to win games. I just don't know.

On a brighter note, the Rams are in third place right behind Kansas City. That is a pretty awesome place to be and it probably has Stafford a little off balance. He has never been here before. Hopefully he can shake off the jitters or awe enough to continue to do what he does best.

They won the game this past weekend, but he didn't do any favors for my wife in our fantasy league. His measly 9 points pretty much sealed her fate. It was kind of sad.

That's all i've got for this week. As I said, it is going to be intersting to see what happens with some of these bowl games. I will do my best to keep you all updated, but right now it is a bit of a cluster as things get cancelled and then revied.

I hope this isn't a precursor to what we have to look forward to for the college basketball season.

Would be a pretty lame ending to this year's college football season if teams are starting to forfeit left and right.

It would be, but if it happens to U of M it would be hella funny. Even funnier if it happened to Alabama.

How would they decide who progress and who doesn't in a canceled match?

I dunno, I am guessing the one team would just forfeit. There are only four, so it could be a Cincy vs. Georgia game.

I admit that I am look forward to what you have to say about the Lions each week. To use a basketball statement it appears as though Detroit "can't buy a bucket!"

They are just so horrible. They don't even have enough shining moments to make it worth it. I will keep watching them of course, but it is just a bit flabbergasting at times. I don't even know!
