Giant Killers

These are the days of giant killers, the days when the mighty fall and the David's stand tall in the face of Goliath. It's interesting because most people stop that story after David fells the giant with the stone. What they don't talk about is the fact that David proceeds to cut the head off the giant and hold it up for all to see.

A statement. That's what teams are making this weekend in the conference tournaments. Teams that are on the bubble or didn't have a chance in hades are standing tall and taking down some of the top seeded universities in the country. It's amazing and magical all at the same time. It's part of the reason I love this time of year and this sport so much.

Statements are being made. Make no mistake!

Another short post as I am on the road today, but you might remember there were fifteen games being played in the top 25 last night.

First, I want to give a great big shout out to Michigan State for handling Minnesota like they should have a couple of months ago. Unfortunately, now they face a Purdue team that has been difficult for them to beat the past couple meetings. I think they can do it. I think Eddy has weaknesses, there is no doubt about it.

It's definitely do-able, but they need to want it. A win over Purdue could bolster them going into the national tournament. It could literally be game changing.

As far as upsets go, #7 seed Providence took down #2 seed Creighton in their conference tournament. Be aware, those are tournament seed numbers, not national rankings.

10 seed North Carolina State took down 2 seed Duke as well.

6 seed Duquesne took down 3 seed Dayton, and seven seed Colorado State beat two seed Nevada.

With most of the top seeds having bye's for the first several rounds, it's anyone's guess where we might go from here. What I do know is that there is a bunch of basketball yet to be played this weekend.

Friday has another 14 games on the slate and they should all be really great match-ups at this point. You might see a blow out here or there as those lower seeded teams hit the brick wall of the regular season champion. Like I said, hopefully that isn't the case for Michigan State.

I've gotta get going, I hope you get the chance to watch some hoops this weekend. I don't think you will be disappointed.
