Home Opener in Detroit

Although the season for the Detroit Tigers officially started last week, their home opener was yesterday at Comerica Park in the heart of Detroit. Comerica is a beautiful park that I have had the pleasure of visiting several times in my life.

The most recent was for a concert, but before that I got to sit behind the home dugout with my brother in law. Needless to say I have some awesome pictures from those seats that I dig up every now and then for posts.

That wasn't the case this time though.

I'm still in vacation mode after being off for Spring Break and I honestly didn't feel like searching for them for this post.

The saddest part is, all of the players in the pictures are likely retired by now. Except of course Miggy.

Miguel Cabrerra announced that this season will be his last. Honestly, I think he should have retired about six seasons ago. He would have at least been going out on a high note.

In fact, I recently saw in a post on a Detroit Tigers Fan Facebook page that they will be banning anyone who talks bad about Miggy this season. They want to celebrate his career, not the lack of production he has had the last couple of seasons.

I get it I guess, but again like I said, I think he should have been done a while ago. I think he could have moved into a role where he teaches the new players how to hit the way he did.

After all, he did win the triple crown, so you can't say he wasn't a good player. Sure, he hit into a lot of double plays, but he also had some insane baseball knowledge that I hope he tried to pass along to some of the younger generation.

It will be interesting to see where his career takes him after he is finished with the Tigers. Maybe he will just retire into a life of luxury. He certainly deserves it.

I'm sad to say that the Tigers didn't win their home opener. They fell to the Boston Red Sox 6 to 3. It actually looks like it was a pretty clean game up until the 6th inning when the Tigers pitching gave up four runs.

That was the difference maker in the game, it took away their 3 to 2 lead and that was all Boston needed. It was a clean game from that point forward with no more runs for either team.

It would have been cool for the Tigers to get a win for the home opener, but the good thing is it is a long season. They have plenty of time to get this one back.

I am hoping to follow the Tigers a little better than I have been lately and share some of that win you here on Hive. I hope you stick with me even if baseball isn't your jam.

Cool photo! MLB ballparks are a piece of art, they look stunning. I love how they each have their own character, different measurements, different skylines etc. My personal favourite and won I'd love to visit one day is Camden Yards

Yeah, I agree with you. They are all pretty special. I have always though that Fenway would be cool to visit and the new stadium they built in Minnesota several years ago looks beautiful. We have a nice minor league park down the road from where I live and those are pretty amazing too!
