Ladies Night!
With March being women's history month, it's only right that I start this post by pointing out the fact that Caitlin Clark continued to make history this weekend by beating the men's NCAA scoring record. You might remember a while ago she beat the women's NCAA record, but with a pair of free throws in their game against #2 Ohio State, Clark also passed the men's scoring record as well.
In addition to that, she helped lead #6 Iowa to a ten point victory over OSU.
It was a pretty physical game and saw some people suggesting Clark should have been ejected for a play which I did not see. There's always going to be someone trying to sour the mood.
I just re-watched the video and I'm not saying what Clark did was right, but it definitely didn't deserve an ejection. The fact that Sheldon was basically laying on top of her and holding her from behind speaks volumes.
Meanwhile, the rest of the women's college basketball season is starting to wrap up and we are going to be heading to the conference tournament by the end of the week. It's going to be an exciting time. I know the Big 10 Men's tournament is being held in Minneapolis this year instead of Indianapolis or Chicago. I am not sure if the women's is following suit or not.
As I wrote last week, softball season is in full swing. My oldest niece hopped on a plane Saturday morning and traveled with her team down to Florida to play a weeks worth of games starting on Sunday.
Tiffin opened their trip with a huge win over Clarion University 15 to 4. Unfortunately, their second game against Grand Valley State University in Michgan was a 1 to 6 loss for the Dragons. I told my niece I am heading to Grand Rapids in a couple of weeks (where GVSU is) and I can break a few kneecaps if she needs me to. Just kidding, it was a tough loss for the team though.
They are right back at it tomorrow night in a double header against Saint Leo at 5 PM and 7 PM. Wednesday they face Florida Tech in a double header, and Friday they play Notre Dame College (who they played the other weekend) and College of Staten Island in showcase play.
It should be an exciting week for them. I hope they get some time at the beach on their off day today!
Finally, I got the news last night that her younger sister has made a decision and committed to play softball at Radford college in Virginia. It's an NCAA Division I school in a non power conference, so the competition should still be good while hopefully not being overwhelming. The cool thing is, she still has two more years to play before University, so who knows how much better she is going to get between now and then. I'm so proud of both of them.
Meanwhile, my other nieces and nephews should be finishing up their rec league basketball seasons soon and I have a feeling we will be looking at more soccer and baseball in our future. Along with a little bit of travel volleyball thrown in there.
I'm going to wait for it to warm up a bit before I hit any ball fields in Michigan though!
