More Labor Day Weekend Football

Saturday was a pretty interesting day for college football. It seems that some of these teams are going all out and not pulling any punches in their out of conference matchups.

Where most teams are picking teams to play cupcake games like Michigan and their 51 to 7 win over Colorado State. I have to admit, I was kind of hoping for a Rams upset on that one. Not just because I can't stand U of M, but I got a chance to visit CSU a couple of times when I was younger and it is a beautiful campus.

On the flip side of the coin you have teams like Georgia, Ohio State, Oregon, and Notre Dame that charge into adversity head on.

Don't get me wrong, I am not really a fan of any of those teams, but I do think it is great that they were willing to stay away from the cupcake games.

The day started off with Georgia heading against Oregon. In case you missed it, Georgia is the defending national champion, but they lost 15 players in the off season to the NFL draft. It might feel like they have some really big shoes to fill.

From what I saw though, they are going to be just fine. Either Oregon sucks a lot more than their #11 ranking, or Georgia is just that dang good. They basically thrashed the ducks and made them look pretty impotent on the field.

Based on what I saw, I think Georgia has a good shot at a repeat this year.

Then we had the #5 Notre Dame versus #3 Ohio State game last night. Despite the Ohio State win, the Fighting Irish did a really good job of keeping them in check most of the game. In fact, they led most of the game until the very end.

I think a lot of people were stunned at the fact that the Buckeyes didn't dominate the game like they thought would happen.

Notre Dame proved that there are some definite shortcomings on the Ohio State team and I don't think it will be long before we see another team exploit those weaknesses and come out on top.

I hope so anyway, I really can't stand the Buckeyes.

In fact, it would be really cool if it was Michigan State that turned the tables on them. Based on what I saw Friday, that is going to be a tall order.

We can dream though right?!

I was happy with the performance of my alma mater. Unranked Florida beat #7 Utah 29-26 in what turned out to be a really good game. Not a bad debut for the new coach.

I saw Florida State did pretty well for themselves too. I was going to put some money on that game and then I forgot. Kicking myself now!

I watched part of that one but stopped about midway through the third quarter as it looked like FSU had it well in hand. I should know better.
