NCAA Football Week 6: Sad day for Sparty

It was once again another Saturday filled with live sports. Instead of softball, this week I was busy watching some soccer and football. I actually once again watched very little college football on TV this weekend which feels almost like a crime. With six different nieces and nephews playing fall sports, our weekends have been pretty full.
That means endless hours driving around the state and not many hours sitting on the couch watching college football. I honestly don't mind though, I know eventually the snow will start to fly and I will have plenty of weekends to just lay on the couch in my warm and cozy house.

By the time we got home on Saturday, I could have easily turned on the TV and caught most of the Michigan State game. I didn't though, I knew they were playing Ohio State and I have a feeling it was going to be a virtual blood bath. I think a lot of people are surprised given the start that Michigan State had. Personally, I am not. The two wins they had right at the beginning of the season were quite telling if you ask me. Their struggles against Western Michigan should have been a sign that it was going to be a rough season.
By the time I turned the TV on, the score was forty something to 13 and Ohio State ended up winning 49 to 20. I guess I should be happy that MSU was able to at least score something.
In more Big 10 action, Nebraska edged out Rutgers by one point to win 14 to 13. That has to be a good feeling for the Cornhuskers. It has been a rough year or five for them lately. Speaking of one point victories, Houston edged out Memphis 33 to 32.
Purdue took down Maryland by two points winning 31 to 29.
Probably one of the biggest shockers of the weekend was Oklahoma being held scoreless by #22 Texas. Hook em!
U of M beat Indiana 31 to 10. I don't think many people were surprised by that. If anything they were likely more surprised that Michigan didn't score more points. Especially given how Indiana has been playing this season.
Eastern Michigan beat Western Michigan, which I don't think anyone could have called. It ruined one of my sports bets too, so I am not super happy about that. I am guessing the Eagles are though.
Tennessee beat LSU in pretty convincing fashion, 40 to 13.

Wisconsin put a thumping on Northwestern 42 to 7. It would seem that early season win in Ireland against Nebraska was more of a fluke than anything.
It looks like there was a pretty big shake up in the polls this weekend. Georgia moved back up to #1, while Alabama dropped down to #3. Michigan also dropped down to #5 which honestly makes a lot more sense to me given their strength of schedule. I honestly still think it is too high.
Clemson took the #4 spot and Tennessee who I mentioned earlier is #6. Oh yeah, Ohio State is #2 now. I don't disagree with that, but we will see how they do when they have some real competition, like the upcoming Michigan game.
The most shocking game of the weekend probably goes to South Carolina taking down Kentucky. The Wildcats just can't seem to catch a break.
I'd say the most boring game probably goes to #24 Illinois beating Iowa 9 to 6. Yikes!

On the personal side of things, my niece lost her soccer game this past weekend. I think the final score was something like 6 to 2. She was able to score one of the two goals for her team, so that was exciting. At this level it is mostly just mobs of kids running around the field with all of them chasing the ball. There was a girl on the other team that scored the majority of their goals and you can tell she is going to be pretty good as she gets older.
Both of my nephews lost their football games. My older nephew did have an 8 yard run, so that was pretty cool to watch him carry the ball. It was fun to get out and watch them play, as you can see over the three photos, the clouds eventually cleared and though it was windy, it was a beautiful day to watch some sports.
If you are looking for a game to keep an eye on next week, Penn State/Michigan should be good. In the SEC Tennessee/Alabama could also be good. I'd also check out Oklahoma State at TCU. Michigan State will likely have a tough go against Wisconsin. It might be another case of the stadium clearing out before the game is even over.
I also wouldn't put it past Florida State to come away with the win over Clemson. I might actually put some money on that!

Yeah what a snooze-fest. It is really strange to have such a low scoring game in football ever, at any level.
I mean, hats off to the defense and if you are huge into defense then maybe it was exciting for you, but me, I want to see long runs, deep passes, and lots of touchdowns!
