NCAA Men's College Basketball Wrap Up 2/18/2022: I might need a break...

NCAA.png

After watching another epic meltdown by the Michigan State Spartans this week, I think it might be time for me to take a break. Of course I am not actually going to take a break, but being honest this is not the trajectory I expected this season to take for them.

Once again heading into the stretch, the team just feels lazy. They continue to struggle with turnovers and sloppy play. Yes, they might be in a bit of a shooting slump, but these loses to unranked teams are going to come back to bite them hard come tournament time. I am hesitant to be critical of the great Izzo, but many of these issues have been recurring over the years with multiple lineups. Something has to give...

Monday night we had a single top 25 game and #6 Kansas easily defeated Oklahoma State, not much to talk about there.

Tuesday night gave us nine top 25 games. While for me the biggest upset of the night was unranked Penn State beating Michigan State in a game that MSU pretty much dominated, other peole might aruge that the #16 Tennessee Volunteers beating the #4 Kentucky Wildcats was the bigger upset. I guess I can understand that opinion. MSU has been on a downward trend while Kentucky has been on an upward swing. This loss could put a damper on that for them. For MSU, there is really only one way to go from here (I hope it is up).

#9 Duke was almost handed a loss by unranked Wake Forest. It was a two point margin of victory. Probably a lot closer than Duke fans want to see this time of year. #10 Villanova beat #8 Providence and uranked New Mexico beat #22 Wyoming to round out the upsets on Tuesday.

I don't know about you, but I think the Big East is looking hot right now. They might have a fair number of teams in the big dance and one or two of them might make a deep run. Keep that in mind when you fill out your brackets.

Wednesday night gave us seven top 25 games. We seem to be past the point where games are regularly getting cancelled due to Covid protocols, so that is kind of nice.

Rutgers has been on a tear lately and they proved it once again with an upset victory over #12 Illinois. It was a pretty massive upset too putting up 11 points over them to snag the win. I feel like that is three top 25 teams Rutgers has taken down in the last week. This could be a case of them getting hot at exactly the right time.

#11 Texas Tech also got an upset victory over #7 Baylor. Gonzaga continues to stay in the #1 position and depending on this weekend Auburn will likely not move from the #2 spot. We will see though.

Last night (Thursday) there were five top 25 games played. None of them were upsets.

Zero top 25 games tonight, but this weekend we have a full slate of games in store. My neices varsity team starts playoff games this weekend. I am not sure we are going to be able to watch them, but we will definitely be getting score updates from our family.

I will be sure to share the results with you on Monday. Check back for all the top 25 updates from the weekend!

Been a busy week for most of the teams then as you have had games most nights this week which is great if you follow that sport.

Sometimes sports protocols help underdogs to win and sometimes stop the growth of big teams.
Varsity basketball is something which lifts the spirit of youngsters.
Thanks for sharing a umique spice on the sports menu, :)
