NCAA Men's Top 25 Recap: 1/28/2022: Come on Sparty!

It was an exciting start to the week in college basketball. With only two games on Monday night, Kansas and Texas Tech gave everyone their money's worth. It took two over times, but #5 Kansas evetually edged out #13 Texas Tech. Nice job Red Raiders taking it to the wire!

Tuesday gave us nine games in the top 25, but one of them was not played due to a postponement. It was the Wisconsin/Nebraska game and that was actually made up last night. It seems Nebraska was still coming off of Covid protocols back on Tuesday and couldn't play.

For me, the biggest upset of Tuesday night was #24 over #10 Michigan State. I have to say, I am honestly not surprised. As good as the Spartans are this year and as much as I want them to win, they just haven't been that consistent.

I was watching some of the game on Tuesday after I watched my nieces play and I have to say that Michigan State wasn't playing horrible, they just couldn't get anything to fall. Illinios is a good team and it was a tough game. They came out on the losing side. It sucks. Based on what I saw earlier in the game, I am actually surprised that Michigan State was able to bring it within a point at the end. They were down by quite a bit at one point in the game.

What others may consider the biggest upset of the night would probably be #7 UCLA over #3 Arizona. It wasn't even a close game actually.

I have to admit, I am a bit surprised to see Auburn in the #1 spot. Those who follow them would likley disagree, but for me they just kind of came out of nowhere to grab that spot. They almost lost it too winning by only one point against unranked Missouri.

Despite the MSU loss on Tuesday night, I wasn't feeling too badly because my nieces won their varsity game in typical fashion. It was a slow start, but they eventually got up by over twenty points and din't relent until the game was over. My niece who is a freshman even got some playing time towards the end. It was a good game.

Wednesday brought us six games in the NCAA top 25 and only one of them was an upset. It was unranked VCU over #25 Davidson, so I am not really sure it even matters honestly. The game was decided by a bucket. I would expect VCU to maybe move up into the top 25, but it will all depend on what else happens this week.

Last night (Thursday) gave us anothe six games. The biggest (and only) upset of the night came at the hands of unraked Standford over #15 USC. Quite the accomplishment for Standford!

I was watching the make game between Wisconsin and Nebraska and you have to just feel bad for Nebraska. They ended up losing and they haven't won a single conference game this year. They didn't go down without a fight though. There was a point towards the end where they went on a rally to bring the defecit below double digits. It was a valiant effort, but they ultimately lost.

Barring some miracle in the Big 10 tournament, it is pretty safe to say the Cornhuskers season is over at this point.

That's all I've got. No top 25 games on tonight. This weekend between my nephews playing basketball and the NFL playoffs, I will be watching Michigan State battle Michian on Sunday.

Go Green!

Auburn at #1 just seems nonsensical.

I hope the season corrects that soon.
