NCAA Top 25 Basketball Recap: Not much happening this week

NCAA.png

It was a relatively quiet week for college basketball. We are in one of those sort of lulls that happen when pre-conference play is finishing up and full on conference play is just getting started. For example, Michigan State played last weekend, but they don't play again until a good eight or nine days after their last contest. Perhaps even longer.

We did get a handful of games this week and I am going to cover those now.

On Monday there were two top 25 games played. #15 Gonzaga easily managed Northern Illinois, but #7 Texas had a tougher time with unranked Rice. The eventually beat them 87 to 81 in overtime.

Tuesday wasn't much busier with only three top 25 games happening. None of them were upsets, but unranked Memphis did give #4 Alabama a run for their money. Bama has been putting up a pretty nice resume for themselves in this early season. If they can stay healthy and they don't fizzle out, they might make it deep into the tournament come Spring.

Houston seems to have bounced back after their huge loss last week after falling to #5. They beat unranked North Carolina A&T 74 to 46.

Finally, on Tuesday #9 Arizona easily defeated Texas A&M Corpus Cristi (unranked) 99 to 61.

Wednesday brought us another three games (I told you it was slow) in the top 25. #17 Mississippi State beat Jackson State 69 to 59, #19 Auburn beat Georgia State 72 to 64, and #16 UCLA beat #20 Maryland 87 to 60.

Finally, Thursday brought us only one game in the top 25. Last night the #22 Wisconsin Badgers beat the Lehigh Mountain Hawks 78 to 56.

Tonight there are zero top 25 college games on, but tomorrow brings us 13 and Sunday brings us 4. I don't really mind too much. With the holiday season upon us, I should probably be spending more time with family versus watching basketball.

Tonight I do get to watch the stream of my niece playing down in Ohio. I am excited about that. Her skills have really grown over the past year and it is an absolute joy to watch her on the court. The varsity team might not be as strong as they were last year, but they are working towards building something really great.

I think they just need a little more time to start firing on all cylinders.

I think her varsity team plays tonight and then we will get to see her in junior varsity action tomorrow. I am really looking forward to it.

Sorry this was such a short post but as I said, there just wasn't a ton of action in top 25 college basketball this week. College Football bowl games start today, so keep your eye out for those. If you read my post earlier in the week, you should know the games to watch!
