NCAA Top 25 Basketball: Tournament Week Is Here!

If you are even the slightest fan of college basketball, you can't tell me you aren't excited right now! If the final games of the regular season this past weekend are any indication of what we have to expect from the post season, it is going to be truly epic!

There were so many twist and turns this past weekend, that my head is still spinning. I guess there is a reason they call it March Madness right?

While Friday gave us zero top 25 games, Saturday didn't disappoint with a total of fifteen top 25 games. I have to admit, my sole focus was on Michigan State playing Ohio State and that wasn't even a ranked game. It had pretty big implications for where MSU would be seeded in the conference tournament though. With a win against Ohio State and some awesome March magic, The Spartans find themselves as a #4 seed in the conference tournament and they have two early round byes.

Hopefully they can finish strong to get a good seed in the national tournament.

Teams are really turning on the after burners now. They can feel the big dance right around the corner and they are doing everything they can to finish strong and punch their ticket. That means there was no shortage of upsets this past weekend.

Iowa State started things off by taking down #7 Baylor 73 to 58, then Seton Hall downed #20 Providence 82 to 58. To say teams are hungry would be an understatement.

#24 Texas A&M stunned #2 Alabama beating them 67 to 61. Also in the SEC, Auburn upset #12 Tennessee 79 to 70.

West Virginia took down #11 Kansas State 89 to 81, and Oklahoma had a nice victory over #22 TCU 74 to 60.

In what was one of the marquee games of the weekend, #9 Texas handed #3 Kansas a loss on the road beating them 75 to 60.

Even though neither of them are ranked, I should also point out that North Carolina and Duke played on Saturday. Duke ended up coming away with the win in Charlotte. It was a pretty big deal because college game day was there. It is probably one of the biggest rivalries in college basketball, so they always make a big deal about it.

Finally, on Saturday another marquee match up was #4 UCLA versus #8 Arizona in the PAC 12. UCLA came away with the win 82 to 73 and I think they will be a team to watch in the national tournament.

Sunday gave us four top 25 games. Would you believe it if I told you that every single one of those games was decided by no more than 5 points? Talk about a crazy day.

#1 Houston had a tough ride against Memphis, but when the clock ran out they were up by two points and they retain their #1 ranking in the nation. Penn State stunned #21 Maryland knocking them down 65 to 64 and boosting Michigan State up in the rankings to the place I mentioned above.

Likewise, the overtime victory by #15 Indiana over Michigan 75 to 73 gave Michigan State a bit of a boost too.

The final game was #5 Purdue taking down Illinois 76 to 71 to maintain their #5 spot heading into the conference tournament.

Things are going to be pretty chaotic over the next week with teams starting to play in their conference tournaments. It's going to be hard to track them all as rankings turn into seeds and the conference brackets started to get filled in.

I will do my best to give you an update heading into the weekend.

It's hard to believe Selection Sunday is just a week away!
